Hi guys! I just wanted to make a quick update. My impulsive coverall buying has gotten me one step further down the path towards getting a better idea of what coveralls were used in H1. Technically, this step has been here for a while in the form of Lamson’s pair of big macs, but I found a pair that is a match to those. Here are some quick pics:

One thing that caught my attention looking at these in person is the height of the waistband. Just by eyeballing it, the waistband on these is a good bit higher than the roebucks and sears. Also, looking at these front pockets in person makes me strongly reconsider the idea that the H1’s were big macs. The pocket shape and size are nearly perfect, at least to my eyes. The only thing that makes me doubt them a bit is that these big macs, lamson’s big macs, and the pair of MWs that Ghostly put in his comprehensive guide all have the square pocket flap, but the width of the flap slightly overlaps the width of the pocket itself, where at least one pic of the H1’s seems to show the pocket flap and the pocket fitting flush, like they do on the sears and roebucks. Also, these coveralls still have the two seams running up to the shoulders, but I’ve seen a few pairs of big macs since writing up my guide that do in fact have the seamless back. These also have buttons on the arm cuffs rather than snaps, but I’ve seen plenty of big macs with single snaps on the cuffs. Overall, I feel like all of the components of the hero are present throughout the big mac line, but I’ve still yet to see a pair that has all of these components together.
hi guys in h1 movie what color of coverall was used?
Hunter green. It can look different in different shots, but it is due to the cameras and lighting.
Wow, thank you guys!!! This was an amazing piece and extremely helpful to my process! Can’t wait to put this all together for the 2018 Halloween premier!
Anyone know how the workrite coveralls in the new movie compares?
He gets new coveralls, so no point comparing them
I pieced together this image, since I’d never seen it in full, so this can be a guide of somewhat to the reference as well

Is it just me, or do the coveralls Castle wore look like they’re made out of a thicker material? I don’t think they were Big Macs at all. I’d almost bet they were a 60’s to early 70s vintage Ben Davis.
What a shame these branding photos aren’t showing up anymore. Everything else here has been super helpful, it’s much appreciated!
Such a headache trying to find a brand of Big Mac’s or other’s for that matter with the correct seams and pockets as I’m sure it is for a lot of accuracy freaks on here like myself.
With that being said, I am a strong and firm believer the H1’s were a Spruce Green, as TLW described “Greener than Olive” and a “Dulled/Greyed out Green”…they seem the closest at least to me that match.

I’m trying my hardest to find them to reupload, but it’s been a struggle. But thank you anyway! It’s gotta be some kind of one off brand or an off year of a name brand. I’m waiting on archival approval access from JC penny, Sears etc. to dig through old catalogs. That picture is colorized by Nick Mulpagano, the color in those is what he saw fit and made it that color. Otherwise I’d say you’re right on the spruce. But I haven’t seen enough convincing evidence to back it up

No worries, I can only imagine how difficult it would be…
And yeah, i’m aware of the photo by Nick, unfortunately it’s the only closest colour I can find. I did also think that the Sears chest pockets are pretty close to the H1 it’s just the collar and seams that aren’t matching. The screen shot is from another thread, i apologize i forgot the OP but I’m sure they won’t mind If i do a little comparison.
I also have your standard ‘Olivewood’ Big Mac’s with the herringbone pattern like a lot of people do, they’re really nice. Sadly over time, it’s minor inaccuracies have kind of irritated me by not looking right lol…
Here are mine anyway, just to show you how they look professionally weathered up…they make a pretty darn good substitute until we uncover the real deal.

I doubt poor 69 year old TLW would remember 40 years later what the actual brand was (not sure anyone would at this point) but has anyone asked him about it just to be sure? I know it’s widely assumed they’re from JCPenney because of what the cast and Jamie Lee Curtis have said in the past…it’s certainly a good guess…
I just haven’t seen anything on here about asking TLW about the brand, only about the colour. Again, appreciate the hard work and effort as always!

You’re good! The photo has been posted many times before
. The sears pocket flap is certainly close, but everything else isn’t. That’s partially why I think it may be an off year where the rest of the design changed, or possibly used from a decade that isn’t the 70s.
The Big Macs are definitely the closest thing pattern wise, IMO. But not exact by any means. I saw that post in the P&A sub-forum! They’re definitely beautiful. I have a soft spot for any vintage coveralls. They have some kind of “aura” about them, just like vintage hocks.
I asked Tommy and also Randy Moore if they remembered the brand of coveralls used or where they were bought. Both said they had no clue since it wasn’t their department. That fell under the direction of Nancy Keyes and Beth Rodgers. Beth is no where to be found (still looking), and Nancy has yet to respond. No one has actually ever specifically said the coveralls were bought from JC Penney, just that “the cast’s wardrobe” was, in general. As a fellow H78 “coveralls freak”
I’m sure you noticed how extremely weathered the coveralls on screen are. Wrinkled, worn and scuffed. That has led I and several others to believe it may be a possibility that the coveralls were either bought second hand (thrift/army navy store), or borrowed from a set member. I’m still reaching out to the cast and crew trying to see if anyone knows where they went, but no luck so far. My guess is either a cast/crew member has got em somewhere, or whoever they borrowed them from didn’t realize how iconic the movie we love would become, and they were lost to time as an “old piece of clothing used in that one B-flick.” Let’s hope it’s the former!!
No wonder ![]()
Yeah… see, I had a feeling they might not have been…I wasn’t so sure.
And thank you!! They’re heavily weathered for sure, most notably in the School Yard scene with Lonnie as we all know. Got most of my references from there and from some of the clearer BTS Photos…i had to wing some of it though but that’s always fun to do and personalize it yourself.
I definitely can’t see the designers weathering them lol…why would they anyway? Wouldn’t make any sense from how low budget it was.
More than likely a one off brand like you mentioned which is why it’s hard to find. The painstakingly long search continues haha ![]()
Hopefully we get some updates or further details in the near future.
Haven’t found a place to buy Roebucks Coveralls that ship to Europé ![]()
