Difficult to get good photos but I have slides of both of those book shots (see attachments); the original picture posted at the start of this thread was used in the French lobby card set.
I’ve spoken with Kim and she has some of her negatives, essentially the ones in her book. Her book is great, but I wish the printing and paper was higher quality and several of the photos are reproduced quite small unfortunately. She sells original photographic prints through SugarMynt Gallery. I have purchased several and her prints from the original negatives are beautiful. So many of the images we have seen over the years are reproductions of reproductions of images printed in books and magazines, you can tell by zooming in and looking for the dot patterns, and the details are lost. The original photos have so much more detail.
Sean Clark has quite a few high resolution scans of original photographic prints and possibly color slides that have never been made public, Akkad asked for the originals back and won’t let Sean publish his scans, claiming that they plan to do a book one day. Every so often one of the photos will end up on Nick Castle’s con tables for signing, otherwise they’re kept under lock and key.
Akkad has the remaining negatives. Since Kim was hired to document the film, her photos and negatives were legally “work for hire,” making them all the property of Trancas. The fact that Akkad is still sitting on hundreds of images from 78 and HII, is so incredibly frustrating. He could produce a coffee table art book that would provide us with even better mask reference photos and make Trancas a mint.I am a designer who has designed several high-end art books and have reached out to Trancas with a serious proposal for publishing exactly the book us fans would go insane over, but have never received a response. The sad fact is those negatives are sitting in a box in some closet deteriorating and we probably will never see them.
Thank you, this is what I was going to say about Sean having these. He has spoken many times about how he cannot show them. Someday hopefully we see them all.
Hope I don’t sound like a fool but for as long as I’ve seen this pic…is there any version of the movie where this scene is found or was it always just a photo? (along with the others above too, minus the top of the stairs before he starts coming down, of course)
