I think a lot of it has to do with the current popularity. I passed on a JC Shat on eBay back in September that sold for a reasonable $650-700ish. Still kicking myself for not continuing to bid on that one. Now good luck in getting one for any less than $2500. I think it’s a combination of hype, price gougers, and people willing to shell out crazy amounts of money. It’s nothing uncommon to me, I see it all the time in my line of work. Once the hype dies down prices will settle and slightly decrease.
When Scream 4 was released, popularity surged as FunWorld mask prices skyrocketed. Everyone said it was simply hype and that it would simmer down. Seven years later, and the prices are at an all time high.
I do wonder if the Myers community will heal after this market spike…
sorry but this masks looks cheap XD …just saw a H40 TOTS for over 1000$ wtf…guys… come on this is pathetic… i believe People pay for a name not for a good looking mask
I also dont think this mask looked like a top tier mask. Sure it looks great for a 500 USD mask, but come on ? I also think JC work is just ahead of Freddys work, and his wait time is much longer as well. My JC Castle looks better than this, so how much would that go for ? 7K ? lol
Most of those 5k bids are fake. No one is actually gonna pay that. If you look at the highest bidder, they have zero feedback, bought nothing, sold nothing, just joined Ebay = fake account.
You can’t (I am just guessing they joined) they have bid on this item 4 different times (the only item they have ever bid on) when they get outbid, they bid again ever higher (bumping up the price) no seller on Ebay is gonna accept a 5k bid from someone with zero feedback, who hasn’t even bid on any other items… fake profile, and if they win, they will NOT pay.
That mask you guys are talking about is mine, i’m selling it on ebay, but i agree with everything you guys are stating other than the mask looking cheap…
I started the bid at $200, considering I bought it off ebay for over $500. I’d appreciate it if you take a look at my starting price before bashing me for “selling for an insane price”. I wasn’t expecting it to go past $500, and sure as hell wasn’t expecting anyone to bid $4,900, but it’s clearly someone who’s not planning on paying. I guess i’ll have to either re-list or just sell on here which I don’t have a problem with.
The crazy prices are what drove me away from the hobby, as far as collecting goes. At one point $400 would get you a mask made from the movie mold (SSN) now days $400 won’t even get you a bottom tier mask.
Yeah the vast majority of the crazy prices are bids from non paying people. There are some well known collectors, however, who are known for flipping masks for crazy prices.
I don’t think anyone is bashing you man, just the ridiculous prices these items are reaching. I know you started out the auction way under what a reasonable price would be. The eBay scammers that pull this kind of stuff jack up the price so high with dummy accounts so whoever the next lowest bidder is can be contacted by the buyer next in line. Hopefully whoever did they will end up paying, but I sadly think they’re taking you through the ringer. These bid padders ruin everything for everyone and make people think this is fair market value. If you do get screwed over from the buyer, I do believe there is an option to block people that have a low to none feedback rating on future auctions. Ebay has become a cesspool of scammer buyers since they have unfairly stacked the protections in the buyers favor, rather than equally for both parties. My favorite scam the assholes pull is using a credit card through PayPal, but the item with the credit card, make some bullshit claim that is was damaged/not received/or not the pictured item. Then they’ll file a dispute with their credit card company, get their money back, then they’ll dispute PayPal on behalf of the card holder and PayPal will usually always agree with a credit company. That means it will come back to you, and you’ll be required to return the money. This kind of thing usually happens on high ticket items, so basically anything above $2000. I know I’m rambling, just thought this might be something worth keeping in mind for your protection. Good luck on the sale man! I really hope they’re not screwing you around with that kind of money getting thrown around.
