So after watching the Directors Cut, it is so clear that the theatrical is a horribly butchered flick with no plot. The Directors Cut flows so much better and has a Story, its simply the story of Lauries Descent into Madness. All the scenes that were cut in the theatrical were pretty much the meat of the story.Scout did a wonderful job slowly breaking down and spiraling out of control and having inner conflict with rage, etc. I will never understand how it fully works decision wise, Just seems Dimension wanted a product out there and Rob wanted a movie that had a point to it.
Part 1 is Michaels Story, Part 2 is all about Lauries Journey and the directors cut shows There was an actual vision all along and its sad it was removed from the theatrical.
I agree completly my friend. Some people think the version they saw previously is better movie but I beg to differ. This story is the way it was intended. A slow slip into maddness. I for one feel that this is the movie I wanted to see.
I think that Rob should have kept the theatrical ending. There were some visions of Laurie like the hanging and stuff that should have been added into it.
Agreed, when i saw this in theaters, I was very mixed on it…Now I really like it and am satisfied. My only gripe is in fact the use of the Nan Vernon Accappella Love Hurts, the Lauries Theme is just more Haunting, but the use of love hurts reminds me of the odd use of Mr. Sandman at the end of the original H2 which doesnt really fit but it a bit off and eerie. Regardless I am happy with Robs completed vision and am very concerned about the next step for Myers…
Also I have read in another thread someone stating Rob saying in the commentary the movie sucks, but thats totally false. He states basically that the experience of filming it sucked because of so many problems whether it was the studio cutting funds and days or just problematic issues with props, sets, etc. It sounded like he was happy his vision was out there now and is the main one getting pushed and that he was just frustrated with the process this time. Never once does he say, I made a bad movie or anything similar, he only says he had to take alot of shortcuts and improvise because of the troubles.
I also feel the the directors cut of H2 brings Rob’s vision to the perfect conclusion. Michael is trying to bring his family back together. Laurie is craving some sort of family stability and is slowly descending into insanity but in the end all of them are brought together through death and given peace. It’s almost like the blackest happy ending. A great paradox. It makes the tagline “Family is forever” all the more relevant.
There is a fan edit out there called Angle Myers, its all about Laurie becoming the Killer. She has flashes of Michael when she does, but shes the kill interesting stuff and really well put together.

Not to be a dick but I totally disagree, I think the DC is trash crappy scenes added, horrible dialogue, I think the best part’s of it are the ink painting how laurie see’s a white horse and the joke Sweet Lou tells Howard at the strip club.
I agree totally with TrueHorror. This is such a better movie than the theatrical version.I was so impressed with Scout’s performance. The scenes in the psychiatrist’s office and the arguing with Annie built the story so much.Laurie came off less like a timid victim and completely like a person who was losing their grip on sanity.I agree with MickIbanez about the ending somewhat.I didn’t like Michael screaming DIE as he stabbed Loomis and the cops shooting Laurie kind of sucked.Other than that,I loved it!!
Well ,is the one I saw on Youtube the one that is being released as the Directors cut on DVD??
If so I thought it was a great movie(haven’t seen the theatrical cut yet)
Somebody fill me in please.
from a writer’s point of view, the director’s cut was a movie in WHOLE, and not just something put out there to profit off of gore.
I have such a strong connection to the white horse aspect of the movie. No no, I’m not saying that I am a murdering sociopath (?) BUT the feeling of strength due to nothing more then rage is something I think many of us can relate to.
Yeah, and the use of home movies cut into the scene…it’s gut wrenching. That’s what I love about this movie, there’s actual consequences to the murders. RZH2 confronts murder as it should be, because it’s an awful and tragic thing. Most slasher movies use it as entertainment, but in this movie I actually hated seeing people die.
The theatrical is nothing more than a slasher film setting up kill after kill since the subtext and whole point of the movie is that Laurie is slowly going down the same path as Michael, Even Rob says this in the commentary that of course the theatrical version made no sense since all of the actual character development was removed…
i thought the ending of the directors cut was kinda weird and different but cool in a way if that makes sense. i guess my only gripe in that scene would be once michaels mask comes off you get a very clear view of his face.
