Apart from the cracking I don’t think the paint is too bad. It’s certainly preserved it, and whoever had it before was certainly interested in making it more accurate to how they perceive it to be.
The cracking is actually pretty hard to notice until your up close. Kinda gives it character. just wish it was consistent and the eyebrow was covered. but regardless it is a nice mask. one that we don’t get to see often anymore.

Very true on both counts.
I can see the 86’ in the pictures so no worries on that. It may be a 90’s version though but still the 86’ mold.
You could try a small spot with warm water and mild soap with a dish sponge and see if the paint comes off.
I would use light pressure though. Any amount of hard scrubbing will remove it but will also stretch the already thin latex DP uses. If you can get the paint to remove almost on it’s own with warm water then you might be able to preserve it.
This is just a suggestion on how I would go about trying it.
Yeah I am sure it is from the 90’s the latex on my one from the 80’s was thicker. I might give your suggestion a shot. Just trade it nice and slow and see if it will rub off. I assume it is spray paint do to the cracking but not sure.
