Fan Film- Halloween: Boogyman Pic Heavy

Cool! I am looking foward this scene!

This is my favorite shot that had to be cut from the final version of the film. It’s only two and a half seconds long, but I love it!

Check it out:

Why did you cut that part !?
I still cant wait to see these shorts.

I know man, I wish I didn’t have to. I love that shot! Unfortunately when you edit a lot gets left on the cutting room floor :frowning:

However, we are doing a DVD for this one, because it definitely deserves it. We can only charge for actual DVD manufacturing and shipping costs, so they’ll be cheap, and they will include all the deleted stuff, some behind the scenes, interviews and yours truly doing a commentary lol. They won’t be available for a few weeks at least, but of course you’ll be able to see the film online for free

Got another deleted shot from the film here. Another one I was sad to see go but ultimately it’s just one of those shots that as much as you may like it, it has to go!

Enjoy!

Have they given you any idea when and how they are going to start screening the fan films yet? I thought there would be an update by now.

Mine is being handled slightly differently (it won’t actually be uploaded to them until this Friday), but once I hear something though I’ll let everyone know!

Thanks for the update. Looking forward to seeing this as the previews look really sweet.

Just listened to the final sound mix for the submission cut (there will be a Director’s cut as well) and wow, are you guys in for a treat! This things sounds amazing, and the movie’s not bad either

Lol talked to Justin last night. He said they got swamped with submissions! Looks like we’re gonna have a ton of great fan films to enjoy!

We made it in!! :drinkers: :drinkers:

I can not wait to see this ! Fact I cant wait to see them all.
Should make for a good marathon of short films.

Looks cool, but how did you get permission to send yours in a week later than everyone else?!

I asked a few weeks ahead of the deadline. I was tied up in another project and didn’t even know about the festival until September 13th. Then I emailed them with a link to a trailer for another film I am working on, and asked if I could get an extension so I could deliver a 30 minute short, and I would only need an extra 5 days to do it. They said absolutely and my team and I got to work! If I had known about the festival in July when it was announced there’s no way I would have gotten, or needed for that matter, an extension. Then I would have done a straight up feature film. But when you only have 5 nights to shoot your film, you do what you can.

Our film was shot in a total of 38 hours (not counting the 11 hours of supplemental stuff like Dr. Dementia and Children of the Flesh, which will be made available both online and on the DVD soon), with us shooting a total of 9 hrs 30 mins of footage to be whittled down to 30 minutes. In those 5 nights we did a total of 398 different set-ups, which breaks down to over 79 different shots per night, which is insane lol. The most I’ve done on any other film project is around 25, and that was a monster day!

Most festivals have what’s known as a “late entry” period, which is usually only a week after the main deadline. I didn’t know if this one would or not, but the worst they could have said would have been “no”, to which I would have simply shortened up my script and met the deadline. Thankfully they said yes and we were (mostly) able to make the film we set out to make.

@captainhair101 by the way I really dug Shadow of October! Excellent job and a totally unique storyline set in the same world. Congrats sir!

Well that’s good to hear. So what are Dr. Dementia and Children of the Flesh? Will they be programs playing on the tv in the background? I love when horror movies make up their own cable shows in the vein of Monstervision.

They absolutely are in the Monstervision vein and are playing on the TV’s in the movie

Dr. Dementia is taken straight from H1, when Annie tells Laurie she’s going to have Lindsey watch six hours of horror films. I did a quick test version several years ago, and I took that concept and just improved on it. We shot 3 “movie intro’s” in one night, with the good Doctor introducing each of the films. The original idea was to have one of them play before Halloween: Boogyman, but there wasn’t enough time to get the music for the Dementia segment done before we had to turn in our film. That version will appear on the final “director’s cut” version of the film on the DVD. The other two intros do appear in the submitted cut of the film though.

Children of the Flesh is a zombie short that we literally shot in about 2 hours on the last day of production. It was cheesy, gory, and just plain dumb fun lol. While it is seen briefly on a TV in the film, it will also be made available online and on DVD once the sound work is finished (we only did the sound for the portion that plays on the TV).

Visual effects are fine, but it’s always nice to get it in camera! Happy Halloween Haddonfield!
