I know everyone seems to say “Altama” when discussing H1 boots but my Vietnam jungle boots are made by Genesco and I’d like to show them and get some opinions. Any interviews or articles where it says Altama is used would be highly appreciated in my quest to have an authentic costume. These are actual Vietnam jungle boots, they smell like an Army Surplus store. I did an advanced search on here but couldn’t find anything so any knowledgeable person who wants to help me out will be greatly appreciated.
Katie, as far as I can tell, your boots are identical to the Altama brand jungle boots. The only difference I see may be the soles of the boots. The patterns & colors on yours are the same, though.
Where can you see a good picture of the soles? All the pics I can find are too blurry. I found a site that has pictures of boots they used in Vietnam…I clearly have the Panama soles.
But the green canvas part does not have the kind of diagonal stitching that can be seen in pics. Of course, this was in 1978 and Vietnam was over, so who knows how old the boots used were. I found this site by googling “Vietnam War footwear”
At least I know I have real Vietnam jungle boots, whether they used real ones in the movie or not. I’ve gotten them broken in now (they were wicked uncomfortable at first, especially with those plastic insoles) but since I doubt I’ll ever need to take a pic of the soles, they’ll work for me.
So I guess the guy from Phelp’s garage was a vietnam vet Go over and fight for your country only to come back and get snuffed by an escaped lunatic It’s funny that until I came to this board I had no idea that he was wearing anything other than a pair of black boots.
Katie, these are as close as you’re gonna get to the H1 boots. I have a two pair, and they are awesome!! The Altama 8878 Jungle Sahara boots. http://www.botachtactical.com/fc.html
