H4 Cover Artwork

Hello everybody

I’m a new member here on mm.net.
I come from Germany and I have my
first few questions to you:

  1. Has anybody an idea who the artist
of the original H4 cover artwork is?
  2. How big is the drawing?
  3. Who owns the original nowadays?

Thank you and greetings from Berlin, Germany.

From the looks of it the one on the right looks like a photo, and the one on the left looks like a painting of that photo. I’m not sure.

As far as I know is - the H4 poster cover is a painted artwork
not an actual photograph. It is a painted copy of the black and white
book cover that shows the actual hero (like the pic on the left side).
Therefore the artist didn’t know the color and extemporize the color etc.

But who is the artist?
Thanks for your reply.

Unbelievable!

Six years are gone since I wrote my very first post here on the board and now I’m curious if there are some news and facts that answer my very first question. Any idea about the original H4 painting? Thank you very much gang!

wow- i was researching this last week…came up with NOTHING-LOL

There was a post about this same topic awhile back, it was a picture of Dick Warlock wearing the mask taken when they were fliming H2. If look at the book cover version u can see where it was cut out.

Thank you very much! Until now as far as I know it is not really proven if somebody was under the mask when this pic was taken. The mask is way too narrow for Dicks face. Some people claim it lies flat on the table stuffed with a towel or something when the pic was taken back in the days. Then they cut out the photograph and recomposed it to get the look like somebody is wearing the mask. May Kim Gottlieb Walker knows more? Very interesting!

But! Who is the artist of the H4 cover painting? And…where is it now?

I know Billy knows something about the photo, and I’m sure Kaizu has some info to boot.

Hey Rabbit_In_Red, take a look at this link

Cool KKF and thank you for the link! I ve never forget about this thread. Amazing how similiar the strech of the mask looks on both pics. Even the left ear (his right) looks totaly the same. But you always can clearly see the eyes of Warlock when he was wearing the mask. During the movieshots and later or meanwhile on the set. It never looks that dark as we can see on the mysterious cover pic. Maybe the guy who cut out the mask picture also cut out the eyes.

But what is about the lost artwork ladies and gentlemen? There must be the original artwork we all know from the H4 cover and there must be the original unedited novel photograph with its original background.

Thank you very much

I do have one plausible question. In H2, yes it was velcroed in the back, which would stretch some, But, the coveralls were buttoned all the way up, not seeing Dicks neck, is it possible, and I’m not arguing with any facts or theories here, don’t get me wrong, BUT is it possible that on set of H2, did anyone else ever at any time wear the costume for any scene, because that pic, coveralls are un done, and even un velcroed, should still look more like Dick wearing it, instead it is slightly stretched downward, and I just wonder if anyone else could have had it on during that particular photo shot? Also resembling more of the Castle look would also explain the use of that photo rather than any other still from H2 for the h4 novel pic, leading to the h4 cover? Again just thinking and wondering out loud.

I’ve had that pic up, for the last couple of days. Is it possible to recreate the lip bumps, post pour? With drops of latex.

Safety pins holding the back of the mask in H2, not Velcro!

KKF

that should work!

What about Grabowsky? He would have had to give credit for the use of the pic on his book. Wonder if he would have any documentation of that anywhere? Or perhaps the origins of that pic. And thank you KKF, I stand corrected it was safety pins not Velcro, I forgot that.

Nothing in my H4 book Eric

I contacted Mr. Grabowsky and asked him to bring some light into our darkness about the mystery uncut cover photograph. Hope I get an answer.
