Halloween vs Halloween II

It’s not the most successful sequel, H18 is.

Adjusted for inflation it only drew 90 million less despite early 80’s recession, and 2018 having the power of the internet/social media advertising, which didn’t exist in 1981. Same with 1978 only drew 10 million more adjusted for inflation despite the theatrical run of the original going until August 1979(10 month Theatrical Run).

Then you add that the franchise was established by this point, so every movie preceding contributed to it’s box office. where Myers was not really established in 1981, the 1978 film was popular as was the Myer’s character, but many of the tropes from the mainstream pop culture came from Halloween II, such as the critically acclaimed by the audience brother/sister storyline.

That’s actually very impressive, put the 2018 movie back in the late 70’s/early 80’s or mid 80’s and it’s not gonna draw as well.

All this does is show how horrible the Rob Zombie movies were, if they were better(which 2018 is) then it would’ve drew better.

For me I always consider the 2 movies as 1 big movie!!! And Halloween 2 takes place same night. But if u want to look at it separately. Halloween 1 for me. Original movies always get my respect. You have to honour the first movie in a series. But part 2 is beyond genius. Love it just as much as h1. That’s why this is 1 big movie for me.

I’ve always felt this way too. That’s why I love the Hell and Horror in Haddonfield cut. One three hour movie of H1 & H2 together:jack_o_lantern::jack_o_lantern::+1:

I first viewed parts 1 and 2 on copied VHS tapes, that weren’t labeled(was about 8 years old) and I actually watched part 2 first, it picked up after the opening credits, a couple days later I wanted to watch it again, but because the tapes weren’t marked, I didn’t know I was playing a different tape, and it started with the opening of Halloween 1, and I saw Loomis, I saw Laurie, So I knew I was watching the right tape, I just assumed the tape had some how gotten rewound and I was watching it from the beginning

well, get to the middle of the movie, and I’m wondering "Where’s The Hospital? then watch the climax, and it cuts to end credits, I was in dismay because it had not gotten to the Hospital part of the movie. only later did I realize I was looking at 2 different movies, yet to me they were 2 halves of 1 story.

As a Kid, it’s even easier to take in as 1 movie in 2 halves

I absolutely agree with this 100%.

I tend to view them as the same movie continued… But, I do find myself more excited to view H2… Think I like Warlock’s shape the most…

Halloween II for me. More fun to watch. Simple as that.

I’ve got to go with the original, although I love them both in their own ways. What makes the original stand out to me is the less is more approach, specifically how little they showed The Shape. A flash of lightning in a window, or walking just out of sight, etc. Same with how they didn’t show alot of gore. I’m sure alot of this stuff was due to the low budget, but it worked so well and left so much up to the imagination.
