So as the title states my opinion on the Handiboy Dead Ringer keeps changing, going back and forth if you will. The first time i seen it i thought the features especially the lips were too prominent. Then seeing a few the mask slowly grew on me. I ended up ordering one early March hoping to make it the mask i would start actually wearing instead of just displaying. Fast forward the wait and I got the DR early October just in time for Halloween. Try the mask on with my h1 coveralls and the shape of my head made the mask look goofy not at all an h1 or h2 vibe while wearing it.
I thought id just keep it on display with the Kirk I won on Nicks fb page days before the dr was finished. Well after a while i just started looking at the mask again and started feeling i didnt care for it as a Myers mask anymore, but still liked the Kirk. So then i questioned do I convert it to an H2 or just sell it. Decided to post it for sale.
Once i posted it for sale here, fb, and IG I started getting inquiries almost immediately. Everytime I would get a notification I would also see the pic of it I posted. Well after a couple times i found my opinion changing back again. It seems like the pic I posted may have just been the right angle to catch my eye or something. Or was it just the influence of others draw to the mask? Now i am questioning if I should sell it.
Have any others ever had a similar situation? Where your opinion on a mask continually goes back and forth or simply changed your opinion over time. I mean replica masks not masks from the actual movies like H4 or H5 masks growing on you. Would love to hear if any others have had masks they just cant keep the same opinion about. I guess this also is a prime example of not all masks are created equally. That even masks from the same mold can look different and some better than others even though they’re the same mask technically.
It happens to me with the Warlock by CGP. Sometimes I love the mask and other times its Ah ok to me. I guess it all depends on the Finishing work to be honest.
Yeah there’s a lot that just strikes me wrong about this mask, at least as an H1. Not even too fond of its Kirk equivalent.
As far as a flip-flop for me, just operating off photos, I go back and forth on the 75K Castle. Something just…doesn’t look right in a lot of the recent photos for me.
My opinions of a mask have changed on a few occasions but usually due to seeing a bad conversion vs a good one. As far as the DR I think Nick keeps getting closer and closer and in the near future he WILL blow us all away with a piece he creates. This one is good but I don’t feel it so much as an H1, now as an H2 is one of the better masks out there I think.
Personally I think what makes a great replica of the H1 and H2, is having very subtle but intricate detail, the more you exaggerate features the further you stray away from what made the hero.
I’ll expand upon my earlier comment and say I think it’s a great mask and even reads as an h1 to me, the details are just a bit too prominent to be accurate. I believe you can still have an h1 mask that isn’t 100 percent accurate. Maniac anyone?
Yep. Used to have the promo copies of a mask that once lost its appeal to me. Sold two of them off & got two from another maker that I thought was the ned-all-be-all of Myers masks. Then after years of looking at them, they just didn’t do it for me. Now I’m back to the masks I owned the promos for & consider them to be my “grails.” Who knows - my mind may change again in the future. It’s all in the eye of the beholder (for the most part.)
Not that I can recall. Sometimes great finishing work can make a mask look significantly better, and give me more respect for a mask’s potential though.
Yeah but that is due to the times and specifics of people I guess. I used to love the Warlock but a mixture of better sculpts being released and the creator… not a fan anymore. As for the Ringer, it’s a copy by copy basis for me. I believe the details are too prominent but with certain finishing it works well, moreso as an H2. Your copy looks solid
Yeah i could see him nailing it the future and completely agree i like it more as an h2.
Yep sometimes the subtlety is what makes it.
I do agree about not needing 100% accuracy all the time but compared to some pieces in my collection it shows. Im also to a point where i want as accurate as possible.
Yeah def a copy to copy basis, and thanks about my copy. It just doesn’t compare to some in the collection. I do still like the idea of converting it to an h2, but also think theres better h2s if i really want another. Its always a debate in my head of what mask next haha.
There was a time when I considered the NAG 2K to be THE H1 grail. Over the past few years my opinion on it has changed a little bit. When certain people with the right head sizes wear it it’s still pretty right on, but now I view the 75K Castle and 98 Proto as more accurate sculpts. I’m not sure anything beats the Proto on proper display.
Unfortunately i deleted or lost in transitioning to a new phone recently. The problem was really the eye cuts more than anything i think. I have long hair so a lot of masks dont fit right. The eyes just made it look goofy almost h2 with the warlock stretch to the eyes, only thats just how they look even not worn on my copy. I did find a pic before i put the coveralls on for the post i made on fb. Just have to dig through my work phone.
Like i mentioned may have just been the eye cuts really, the mask doesn’t look “goofy” necessarily, just off. Ignore my bug eyes as im not used to using the selfie camera yet alone in a mask lol.
