Have your mask opinions ever changed?

Like most of us, the original 78 film is what started my love for the hero mask. I was 9 when that movie came out (which means… damn I’m getting old!) For decades, the mask from H1 (or at least the image of it in my mind’s eye) was the only true mask for me. But as I got older, I developed a much deeper fascination and appreciation of all of the varied iterations with the possible exception of H5. That one never worked for me. Now, I find that I actually like the beat up, dirty, stretched out Warlock version from H2 best of all. I’m not sure when the change occurred. I still love the original. But that original is so hard to capture. There is something about the Warlock version of the mask that I really love right now. I’m also developing a fondness for H4, which I used to hate. Go figure. Anyone else have this happen? Have you found yourself suddenly into a version of the mask you used to dislike, or liking a version better than the one that used to be your favorite? Just curious.

And I’m not talking about artist interpretations (e.g. N.A.G, or Night Owl or SSN, etc.) I mean the actual on-screen looks.

Yeah, I had this experience with the H4 mask. Years ago, like most people, I looked at it and immediately thought it looked ridiculous, but as time has gone on, re watching the movie many times, and taking a good long look at the mask, I suddenly realized I was wrong. I realized how creepy and blank the mask is, perfect for Michael Myers. It’s now my second favorite mask in the series, with the H1 original being my #1 favorite.

In recent times the h5 mask has grown on me alot. I used to hate it but now I quite like it. I’d probably put it at number 5 behind h1, h2, h18 and h6

I think they all have their positives. The H1 mask looks different on-screen then it usually does with accurate reproductions for some reason.

I also love the H2 mask, especially the scene where he walks through the glass, then slits the cop’s throat. Looks so evil.

When the mask images were released some time ago, I wasn’t that interested in obtaining one.
Then as the film date got closer, I thought about it and dismissed the idea again.

Now that I’ve seen the movie, I want one in the worse way. Love the mask.
Been bidding on ebay and stopped at $200.00 on 3 seperate auctions already. The hype is at its very highest right now and it’s a sellers market.
Stock will drop straight out of the sky come Nov. 1 though.

Damm me, I should’ve jumped on that pre sale when it first opened weeks ago…

You can still buy a mask for $60, no need to pay $200.

the h4 mask has really grown on me over the years.

also some of it may be nostalgia since h4 was the first Myers movie I ever saw in the theater. (I was a little kid and really had no idea who Myers was or any of it, but he creeped me out.)

The H4 mask has grown on me. Enough to make me want to buy a Kirk to get converted. Probably cheaper than one of those fancy nice ones :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes I agree with this while I’m an odd one out with H6 being my favorite mask. I go through phases where each mask peaks my interest differently honestly a lot of it is my mood more or less. I think each and every Myer’s mask is ultimately awesome and cool in there own ways. I will say for the H5 mask the only time it looks good is when someone that is large in size is wearing it.

I spent my entire life hating the mask in Halloween 4 just for all of a sudden to find myself warming up to it last year.

Not before Halloween, too inflated.
My purpose was to have one by halloween…an H40
I’ll preorder one and have it sent to Nick for a rehaul.

I think for me it’s the H1/H2 hero.

There’s one shot in H2O where the mask looks good - after he attacks John and Molly on the path through the woods and Molly twats him with a rock, he snaps his head round really fast to look where they’ve run off to, timed with a music cue.

I likewise used to abhor the H4 mask. I thought it was goofy and dumb. Now I’ve grown to very much like it.

H4 was the first Halloween I watched when I was maybe 5? I’ll always have a soft spot for that mask but over time the original has become my favorite like most

Yep, H20 would be mine… I hated it and then all of a sudden I just started to like it. Seeing a few pieces online made me appreciate it more and actually grow a fondness for it.
