How did you start collecting?

Hey guys…Ive only been on the board for a short while now, but this community is amazing.
Id love to here from you guys as to how you started collecting white masks and what makes you keep coming back to collecting myers masks.

My story is probably not something uncommon…I was a huge fan of the Halloween movies and wanted to be Myers for Halloween. It was in 2005 just before October that I hit up Ebay to see what I could find. I ended up with a cinema secrets mask for about 40 bucks…Now, even though my friends thought it was cool, I definetly wasnt too impressed with the screen acuracy (that is, the lack of screen acuracy) that the mask had.

I then searched on ebay again in 2007. I found what I thought would be a great mask from Germany that had a great photo that looked just like the H1 mask. I paid $200 bucks for the thing. When I got it, it looked nothing like the mask in the photo and i couldnt get it on my head it was so small…It also came with a nice typed note that said if i leave negative feedback for the item then i would be left negative feed back. I still have the mask, it looks more like a replica of a gorilla head than Myers! Later that year I picked up another mask off ebay. It was ok, but had more of an H2 style look to it, and didnt fit very well.

Finally in October 2008, I came across an ebay listing for a mask called Devious. The seller claimed to be the guy who actually created the mask. He sold it in two sizes and had some great shots of the mask posted. I sent the seller a couple emails and he seemed like a stand up guy. I took a chance and picked up the mask…well, i wasn’t disapointed even a little. The mask was amazing, and actually fit!! It was such a nice mask that I didnt even want to wear it on Halloween for risk of damaging it!!! Later, I would buy Devious V2 and RZH2 from this guy. and I currently have 5 more masks on order with him!! We all know that Im talking about the great Sam McCain of HSS.

When I finally found this site, it was like a gold mine! I now how 10 masks upstairs and 5 more coming in the mail! Im really glad that MM.net is back!

Happy Collecting!

Pretty simple: I was looking for something other than the crap in your average Halloween store and found this site through some others. Bought my Killing Machine from JITB. I intended to buy a Phantom as well but something happened and I had to spend the money on a new mirror from my truck. So the pursuit to get that second mask turned into a bigger pursuit.

It was Don Post’s “The Mask” that started my Myers flame. I saw it hanging on the wall in a magic shop at Disney World back in 1986 and it was all down hill from there!

I have collected some movie props over the years and always wanted to get round to sourcing an accurate myers mask. That said I found this place in March of this year and at the time Kris was selling his NMM78, so it started there. Now I am an addict

The Myers mask has always been an iconic piece that I have wanted after seeing the first Halloween when I was younger. I am now lucky enough to have the opportunity to display a couple of sweet masks and I have this place to thank for this, and especially for meeting some really cool people :drinkers:

I bought a really crap mask in ‘89, just before Halloween 5 went into theaters. It was sold at a costume shop, for $20, and it was a HALF-MASK (covered my face, and had a rubber strap on the back!!!) Boy did it look like CRAP! (I believe this was the first REAL "Crap-face’!) By the next year, I finally bought a DP “The Mask” from a friend of mine for $40, and 2 years later, I ordered another from another local party shop. In 1999 I picked up the cheap-ass $40 version of the Shatner mask (that cost me $60 here in Canada) and then converted it… It looked alright, actually! By 2001, I had a Project 75, and an early “H2” mask (I believe was sculpted by Justin Mabry!!!) and the next year I bought a Cinema Secrets Resurrection mask. I got ripped off a few times, especially from MMP over a Samhain, and I bought another Project 75 (a "Blank, actually) in 2002. In 2006, caved in and bought my first Warlock from CGP. I then became obsessed with finding MY Holy Grail H1, H2 and collecting a mask from each of the movies! And here I am today!! Yay!

it"s been in my blood ever since i was a kiddo i cant stop and will never stop lol !!!

i bought a don post back in '96 for $30 at a local store that sold halloween masks. i wore it that year and then it sat, lost among all the other stuff i “collected” over the years. every so often over the years i would search eBay for a better quality mask but could never afford them. i came across this site about a year ago and have been hooked ever since. i have yet to purchase anything mask related but have expanded my collection of halloween items quite a bit over the last few weeks.

Same here James! Only the first time I saw it was at a magic shop in Cannery Row, CA in '86 while I was in the military. I still bought it though  I’ve had a passion for the mask ever since I saw the previews for Halloween on TV when I was 12  Now I’m fortunate enough to own these!

Started w/ a Krueger glove from eBay forever ago - finally found MMP & we all know how that went down for the most part - found CGP & jumped on the Warlock upon its initial release - discovered BLS & got 2 St. Nicks while at the same time having a MUCH smoother transaction w/ MMP for a Nightwatcher & waiting awhile on a Fear & KissFan from CGP - finally learned what NAG/AHG meant & from there it’s been nonstop (too much to get into.) That’s my story & I’m a stickin’ to it :stuck_out_tongue:

For me it was when I was very young with The Mask. That was my first and to be honest I hated it because it wasn’t good enough. Then years pater I got the Cs Resurrection and I liked it alot because it looked enough like the real movie then the don post RZ H1 though this sight I found the devious through Sam. Then I got my 06 Maniac which I love! Then my Warlock. I can’t stop now!!!

Great stories guys!

Back in 2004 my friends and I decided to make a horror film, we needed a killer. We had an old boiler suit but no mask. A friend suggested we need a blank face like “Jason” lol, so he got a Tesco white plastic bag and cut out eye holes and a mouth. It actually looked pretty scary. But it also looked very cheap!
I had a look on eBay searching for white mask, for which I stumbled across Myers masks. Halloween had always scared me, and the mask was perfect for our rip off film lol.

I bought my first Myers mask with our film in mind in 2004, from an eBay seller called “LITTLE MICKY MYERS” hence the tribute name. It was a UL75 and he became a good friend over the following months, he recommended this site.

5 years later, the itch continues…

i always loved the halloween movies and the mask so much, but here in the uk, they don’t sell them in shops that much so i looked on the net and came across some of gobears’ vids of his collection, i watched them continuously! then i did a myers mask search on google and found this place! so i hung around here then after a few months i got some mass produced myers masks now that i was old enough to have a paypal account, lol! and now i have quite a few myers masks that i love!!!

My Don Post mask melted, so I finally decided to spend some money on ONE good one. Now I have a bunch, and others.

i remember watching halloween when i was a child
but back then to me it was just another horror film little did i know that years later
halloween myers would be a very big part of my life .

the halloween myers hobby really started for me about 12 years ago when i was with my ex-girlfriend
back then i remember the day i brought my first mask i was out shopping and for some strange reason i walked
into a fancy dress shop i had no particular reason for being there but like you do i looked around the shop looking at
all the different masks and then i came across don posts the mask i was amazed because this mask really stood out
in my mind but i could not remember where from and then it came to me watching halloween when i was a child so
i went ahead a bought the mask when i got home i showed my ex and she hated it but she hated me and everything
i had she was a nasty piece of work .

cut a long story short i was having at the time a mental breakdown and my relationship with my ex was falling apart
with everything else around me falling apart … the halloween hobby become more of an obsession then a hobby .
my mental state worsend and i endered up spending some time in hospital .

after dealing with the worst part of my breakdown also by now me and my ex had split up i thank god for that .

now my hobby is a hobby again . halloween michael myers has got me through some of the worst parts of my life and continues to help me . 8 years ago i meet someone special to me and 5 years ago we married . to help with the finance of the wedding i sold virtually all of my myers collection . shortly after i started to feel myself going down hill again . luckly now my wife has no problem with my halloween collectoion . and actively encourages me to add stuff to my new collection .
and this where i am today .

what a touching story. Really lived every word of it with you. I am so glad to hear your ok now and back collecting masks as a hobby with a loving supportive wife. Thats the dream right there.

Cheers to you my friend :drinkers:

Also Great to hear your in London uk like me! Was starting to think i was the only one

My story is similar to James’. I had always collected anything I could find Halloween themed as far back as I can remember, but for masks, it was an '86 Don Post I saw in a shop. I thought it was amazing and had to buy it. The mask went the way of a pool of latex  Wish I still had it, but it started the craze for me, and now I have some pretty amazing masks thanks to this site.

Saw the first NBC premire and was hooked ever since. There were no MM masks back then so I had to make one with paper mache.lol Didn’t know DP made the 85 MASK though I knew about the H3 ones.
Was in Seattle one Halloween night and a couple came out of a bar wearing costumes. The chick was dressed as Cinderella and her buddy was dressed as… the shape! I don’t remember if he was wearing a DP or an indy mask. All I know is that it was cool as hell.
From then on that image of that guy wearing the MM mask stuck in my head for several years. I knew I had to get one but didn’t know how. Keep in mind young people, the net didn’t have MM net back then.
Sometime around the early 21 century I stumbled across a mask gallery that had pics of white masks made by indy artists. I keep forgetting the name of the site since it’s long gone. Around that time I stumbled upon other great sites such as Josh Warren’s/Fruit of the Loomis, Steve Todd’s site and a few I forgot the names of. That’s when I first saw the famous shot of member ZST with KH and DW holding the KH/DW#1,2,and 3. From then I knew a good MM mask can be done.
When I first found MM net, it was just a gallery. A little later It had the forums but I didn’t join as a member do to family issues. I did keep track with whatever came out.lol
Finally joined in 08 and you guys know…The rest of the story!

It’s interesting to see how many of us were lurkers for so many years. I must have been coming to this site for 5 years before I finally signed up started posting. Also, my collection back then wasn’t all that great either!

i started about 5 years ago now i have allways loved the halloween movies right from the very first 1 even tho i wasnt born wen it was released  but a few years back it got near to halloween night and i thought to myself ill have a look on ebay for a myers mask and ill dress up as myers for halloween night so i searched ebay and got a don post myers for around £50 then wen halloween night was over i put it on a stand stuffed it with bags and displayed it in my room after this i just thought yes that looks pretty cool so i went back on ebay and searched again and came across 1 of my rarest masks in my collection now the don post 1999 vinyl mask and its just gone from there im never off ebay now lol i couldent live mithout my horror collection and masks its just brilliant… :axe:
