Honestly. That’s the only way to stop some of the the madness. However, recasting will never, ever stop. You know. I know it, and Joe Cool even knows it. There’s just too much money to be made with these Myers masks. Many artists will keep their Myers mold and simply tweak it and create a new mask with another sexy name. It’s the way it goes.

I’m sure the Mask Police will get right on that…

It shouldn’t need police, it’s a matter of principle.

MATT PLEASE CALL ME   :drinkers:

Well said. And 100% correct.

I wouldn’t own what i do and what i deem most accurate masks in the hobby if it wasn’t for a certain artist recasting a certain mask. i was just speaking about an artist who makes a limited run of masks.

Maybe we could have a recasting and when is it ok thread sometime, there was one a couple years back which ended up with bans and warnings dished out left right and centre and a huge bash fest and one utter and complete mess, however, i think the maturity and civilised behaviour and how people conduct themselves is much better here these days i feel so.

That certain artist you are referring to did not honor the limited run rule with the Mint 75.
A lot of members seem to forget that, overlook it, or just not care. Some people get raked over the coals for it, others just get more business.

At no time did i claim he was innocent of such activity. with what i have said about limited runs no one is singled out, it applies to all artists in general.

The way you phrased it makes it seem like you are referring to two different types of artists.

The problem is simple to resolve, when an artist declares to limit a run of masks he should therefore destroy the mold upon completion of the final pull, that’s it in a nutshell.

This^^^, this applies to every artist to ever make a limited run of masks.
There i go quoting myself again

But you have no problem supporting an artist that does THAT^^^ very thing, so are you part of the problem or the solution? This hobby is full of so much hypocrisy. Truth is, most people don’t care what goes on behind the scenes as long they can get something from it. As long as an artist like THAT^^^ has something that people want to buy, it will continue to be overlooked or swept under the rug. 90% of the people that have posted in this thread have happily given money to an artist they know is shadier than a tree at noon.

I gave an opinion on what i think an artist should do to solve the problem, it had nothing to do with wether or not i support such artists, i am in this hobby to enjoy masks and to own what i consider to me the most accurate masks i can find, if they so happen to come from an artist who is guilty of such things so be it, and i refuse to accept i am part of any problem, if thats the case then so are everyone else who own NAG masks which makes up a fair amount of the population of this community, very few artists are entirely innocent out there. support who you choose to support and i’ll choose who i choose to support, at the end of the day we all collect rubber masks.

Everyone who owns a mask that derives from a DP 75 is guilty to an extent then… Nearly every mask worth looking at is recast from a 75, be it retooled or whatever. Near enough the whole hobby is based off a recast. The issue is letting out more masks than the initial run of a limited piece.

You’re right, we’re all pirates.

I agree with this.

Recasting isn’t necessarily the problem. It’s people/artists/mask makers doing what they say they are going to do when they say it and sticking to it. Limited truly should mean limited if advertised that way by whomever, otherwise it’s just not limited and the entire premise has been defeated.

Yep, recasting/claypressing many are guilty of that but this isnt the issue here, like already said, it’s about limited runs and artists sticking by their word, and i have gave the resolve, wether artists in the future choose to adhere by it is another matter entirely, it’s all about principle and doing the right thing.

As far as recasting someone else’s work, we don’t need to do that, our Art Director is best Monster Maker in the business and does the best Halloween Masks ever made, I’m talking about Justin Mabry![/quote]
haha chris your a gangster!!! JM is the man

No doubt!

wow what a read! I figured I would login and reply since my name and bust have been thrown around a bit on here but first allow me to introduce my self!

My name is Bryan I have been collecting for quite a few years and some of you may know me from the nightowl forum ( same handle)

The SLE that I own from my understanding was one of Kens personal copies and was finished by Colin. I’ve thought about selling this mask as well as many others from my collection but before I do I guess the origins need to be cleared up. Anything I can do to help please let me know.
