Met Dick Warlock in person today...nearly 2 hours!

What a day guys!!! I MET DICK WARLOCK ONE ON ONE!

A few months ago I found out that Dick Warlock and I lived fairly close to each other (please don’t ask where he lives, I’d like to keep that private for him). Over a few emails we struck up a friendship and he offered to meet, have lunch and hang out sometime. Well today I got to meet Mr Warlock and was able to sit down one on one and talk to him for the better part of TWO HOURS!! :open_mouth:

First off let me tell you that this is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. The guy is GENUINE and really appreciates the fans. The man is courteous, respectful, intelligent and very witty! A class act in every sense of the word.

I had a TON of questions for him and he graciously answered every one. We talked about many things over the course of the lunch and I learned some very interesting things about him; key points in his life, his likes/dislikes, views on various subjects and of course…lots of HALLOWEEN!!

Of course I had some questions about the hero!! (some of these things we already know of course but it is still good hearing it directly from the guy who played Myers!)

A question I asked was what was the proper color of the hair? Some say blonde, some brown, etc. His reply was the color was like “camel” hair. He did NOT say it was actual camel hair on the mask but that the hair was similar in color to camel hair. Dick said the color of the hair on the Warlock was too dark and the hair on the KH was too red.

One of my next questions: “Was the hero ever painted during Halloween II?” His answer was “No”. He said that many people think that the weathering on the hero was added for H2 but in fact it was the way the mask was treated between the two movies and during the filming of Halloween 2 that gave it the signature look and YES INDEED it is the SAME mask from Halloween!! lol

I asked Dick a question about the Elrod knife for James Carter. Several people are in disagreement as to the color of the handle of the Elrod knife. Many say it was wood grain, some say it was black and a few even suggest it was green.

This one I thought MAY be a tough one for him to remember but it wasn’t. This is because when he sold the hero he actually sold the whole setup he kept from Halloween II which included: the mask/the boots/coveralls/scalpel and ELROD knife. He sold this set to a friend of his just a few years ago, the guy who owns the haunted houses.

By Dick’s own words the handle to the Elrod knife was BLACK…without question.

Of course there were TONS more of things we talked about which were both Halloween and non-Halloween related and I’ll do a part II about this meeting if you guys are interested. I first just want to make sure with Dick what needs to be kept in confidence and what is ok to share with the board first.

I’ll leave you with just a few miscellaneous things he told me that I thought was cool:

**On the Miller commercial when you hear the voice which says “Great Taste…Less Feeling”, that’s one of his sons!
**Mr. Moustapha Akkad wasn’t totally happy with having Dick play Michael Myers…he wanted someone “Big like Jason”.
**Dick was contacted to play Michael in H20, partly because the producers were not happy the way Chris Durand (which Dick referred to as a friend of his by the way) “filled out” the mask. Also because they were hoping to have Dick wear the hero!
**The coveralls/boots used in Halloween II were picked out by Dick personally. He went and found boots that made him a little taller…construction boots. The coveralls had a grey fabric sewed inside them to give the cut areas/holes in the coveralls “depth” on the camera.
**Dick has a PS3 and enjoys a variety of games including Madden.
**One of Dick’s favorite computer games is the FEAR series.

One last thing…Dick wanted me to tell everyone that he appreciates all the support over the years by coming to the conventions, buying the movies and communities like this one. He also said he is really pleased how he is labled “fan friendly” by the forums and said that too many people forget that without the fans they would not have a career in the first place. He wishes everyone the best and gave all fans a huge “thank you”.

Thanks for letting me share my excitement with you guys. It was a dream come true for me. Halloween and Halloween II are my two favorite movies and meeting Dick Warlock was truly meeting a childhood (and adult) hero of mine. It’s even better to have made the friendship of a fantastic human being over the passed few months.

I didn’t take many pics due to us being at a fairly busy restaurant. I did snap a quick pic of him signing my KH and Warlock (this is outside in the parking lot, signing from the back of my Xterra):

*UPDATE

A couple things I wrote initially need to be clarified. I said that Dick mentioned the hair on the KH was “too red”. This was an error on my part due from a bit of excitement and being a little tired. The way he said it was more like the hair on the Warlock was wrong because it was too dark and the hair on the KH was wrong because of it’s slight red tint. A shade of camel somewhere in between the two hairs would have been about right is what he told me. Just wanted to point that out because saying “too red” makes it sound like he was saying the hero had a red tint, this is NOT what he implied at all.

Another point I want to make is he made it clear the KH was close to the hero! He REALLY likes this mask, the hair tint was ALL he pointed out wrong with it (not true with the Warlock, MANY things were off) and he mentioned the fact he owns the first and last copies of the original KH!

Someone in this thread wanted to see pics of the outside of the KH and the Warlock I had signed. I posted the inside pics so here’s a couple of the outside of the masks:

That’s really cool, I’d love to meet him.

That is so cool man!! Congrats, and thanks for sharing such a great story!!

In the few minutes that I spent with Dick at the 30th convention, he was an extremely nice and genuine guy who has embraced us crazy fans and revels in the fact he played, IMO, the best Shape of the series. I’m humbled that he was such a cool guy, and so approachable. He always has a smile for you.

Congrats on meeting him one on one, Benny, it sounds like you had a fantastic time! Thanks for sharing your story and pics!

Congrats, brother Benny. Dick is THE best there is when it comes to being friendly to the fans. Like you said, he is genuine and really does appreciate all of us. Top notch guy all the way!

I am so happy that you finally got to meet him, my friend. Too bad he wasn’t wearing the H II jacket I gave him. :stuck_out_tongue: :sunglasses:

Congrats Benny! Dick is the finest celeb I’ve ever met, along with his son Lance. Both very sincere and genuine. You rarely come across people like that. I asked Dick about the Elrod knife handle at the 30th con, and he said it was black, so I had JC make mine with a black handle.

thats wonderful!

nice post-

Thats very cool man!

Cool Benny!!!
He seems like a genuine guy and he nailed Myers for sure!!
Thats cool that he took time out to meet you, that only shows what type of guy he really is!!
Congrats!

FING AWESOME!!! :open_mouth: Great post. Lots of information as well as a great time had.

Great story, congrats! Yeah everything i see or read on him says how nice he is.

Thanks Nosferatu, whiteshark, strangerathome (I agree man, he is GREAT!), Donnie (definitely appreciates ALL the fans), Todd (totally agree and cool on the black handle!), 1971, Blackest Eyez 88, Jason (no doubt man, he really proves that he is one of the finest celebs you’d ever meet), thanks onlylooking and ColdArmy 13. ColdArmy, everything you hear is TRUE, this guy is one in a million. Very few celebs have the humility and genuniness this guy possesses…very few people in general do.

One thing I forgot to mention is he was practicing last night until late for a play he is going to be in on the 28th (playing a lawyer), so he was a little tired today but still made time to meet up. Class act is all I can say about Mr Warlock.

This guy stays busy ALL THE TIME! When he isn’t working or spending time with the family he is riding his motorcycles when the weather permits or enjoying karaokee! Fun, intelligent and kind guy to hang out with and he is still COOL! Dude has never lost that at all.

I remember you and I discussing this day back around April or May, I believe. That was back when I had my entire Myers collection stolen and I was desperate to get my collection back and get a few items signed by Dick when I got a few high end pieces in my possession again. I see that dream became a reality, if you ever get that opportunity again, I have my Warlock ZE dying to be signed by him. Congrats Benny!!!

Tony

Thanks Benny for sharing your awesome experience
You must have been stoked!
I’ve only talked to him a few times through mail and I do agree that he’s super friendly and the fact that he always replies just shows how extrordinary of a person he is :stuck_out_tongue:

Wow, congrats Benny! :drinkers:

Thanks Kaizu, you guys are a good bunch to share it with! I was stoked! You are right Kaizu, he is an absolutely extraordinary person.

Thanks It’s Alive.

You’re right Tony, that was when I found out we were neighbors! Some bad things happened in my life and it had to be postponed awhile but I’m glad I was able to do it now. Dick’s a great guy and someone whom over the months I can call a friend.

Cool Benny, thanks for sharing bro.

Nice BENNNY!!!
Yeah Mr.Warlock is an awesome guy! He signed alot of my things at 30YOT convention, he let me talk to him, take pics with him, and he even talked to my mom on how awesome kids who like Myers are lol. Even if I was 11, he was really awesome, treated me the same as others  …I will never forget that day!

Thanks Hugo, he was a pleasure to talk to. It’s rare a fan feels really appreciated but with Mr Warlock it was genuine.

That’s great man and your age has nothing to do with it, that’s the way it should be. A fan is a fan bro whether you are 9 or 90!

dude thats so awesome, it must have been great, its nice too know he’s a nice guy too, cheers :drinkers:
