What a day guys!!! I MET DICK WARLOCK ONE ON ONE!
A few months ago I found out that Dick Warlock and I lived fairly close to each other (please don’t ask where he lives, I’d like to keep that private for him). Over a few emails we struck up a friendship and he offered to meet, have lunch and hang out sometime. Well today I got to meet Mr Warlock and was able to sit down one on one and talk to him for the better part of TWO HOURS!!
First off let me tell you that this is one of the nicest people you will ever meet. The guy is GENUINE and really appreciates the fans. The man is courteous, respectful, intelligent and very witty! A class act in every sense of the word.
I had a TON of questions for him and he graciously answered every one. We talked about many things over the course of the lunch and I learned some very interesting things about him; key points in his life, his likes/dislikes, views on various subjects and of course…lots of HALLOWEEN!!
Of course I had some questions about the hero!! (some of these things we already know of course but it is still good hearing it directly from the guy who played Myers!)
A question I asked was what was the proper color of the hair? Some say blonde, some brown, etc. His reply was the color was like “camel” hair. He did NOT say it was actual camel hair on the mask but that the hair was similar in color to camel hair. Dick said the color of the hair on the Warlock was too dark and the hair on the KH was too red.
One of my next questions: “Was the hero ever painted during Halloween II?” His answer was “No”. He said that many people think that the weathering on the hero was added for H2 but in fact it was the way the mask was treated between the two movies and during the filming of Halloween 2 that gave it the signature look and YES INDEED it is the SAME mask from Halloween!! lol
I asked Dick a question about the Elrod knife for James Carter. Several people are in disagreement as to the color of the handle of the Elrod knife. Many say it was wood grain, some say it was black and a few even suggest it was green.
This one I thought MAY be a tough one for him to remember but it wasn’t. This is because when he sold the hero he actually sold the whole setup he kept from Halloween II which included: the mask/the boots/coveralls/scalpel and ELROD knife. He sold this set to a friend of his just a few years ago, the guy who owns the haunted houses.
By Dick’s own words the handle to the Elrod knife was BLACK…without question.
Of course there were TONS more of things we talked about which were both Halloween and non-Halloween related and I’ll do a part II about this meeting if you guys are interested. I first just want to make sure with Dick what needs to be kept in confidence and what is ok to share with the board first.
I’ll leave you with just a few miscellaneous things he told me that I thought was cool:
**On the Miller commercial when you hear the voice which says “Great Taste…Less Feeling”, that’s one of his sons!
**Mr. Moustapha Akkad wasn’t totally happy with having Dick play Michael Myers…he wanted someone “Big like Jason”.
**Dick was contacted to play Michael in H20, partly because the producers were not happy the way Chris Durand (which Dick referred to as a friend of his by the way) “filled out” the mask. Also because they were hoping to have Dick wear the hero!
**The coveralls/boots used in Halloween II were picked out by Dick personally. He went and found boots that made him a little taller…construction boots. The coveralls had a grey fabric sewed inside them to give the cut areas/holes in the coveralls “depth” on the camera.
**Dick has a PS3 and enjoys a variety of games including Madden.
**One of Dick’s favorite computer games is the FEAR series.
One last thing…Dick wanted me to tell everyone that he appreciates all the support over the years by coming to the conventions, buying the movies and communities like this one. He also said he is really pleased how he is labled “fan friendly” by the forums and said that too many people forget that without the fans they would not have a career in the first place. He wishes everyone the best and gave all fans a huge “thank you”.
Thanks for letting me share my excitement with you guys. It was a dream come true for me. Halloween and Halloween II are my two favorite movies and meeting Dick Warlock was truly meeting a childhood (and adult) hero of mine. It’s even better to have made the friendship of a fantastic human being over the passed few months.
I didn’t take many pics due to us being at a fairly busy restaurant. I did snap a quick pic of him signing my KH and Warlock (this is outside in the parking lot, signing from the back of my Xterra):

*UPDATE
A couple things I wrote initially need to be clarified. I said that Dick mentioned the hair on the KH was “too red”. This was an error on my part due from a bit of excitement and being a little tired. The way he said it was more like the hair on the Warlock was wrong because it was too dark and the hair on the KH was wrong because of it’s slight red tint. A shade of camel somewhere in between the two hairs would have been about right is what he told me. Just wanted to point that out because saying “too red” makes it sound like he was saying the hero had a red tint, this is NOT what he implied at all.
Another point I want to make is he made it clear the KH was close to the hero! He REALLY likes this mask, the hair tint was ALL he pointed out wrong with it (not true with the Warlock, MANY things were off) and he mentioned the fact he owns the first and last copies of the original KH!
Someone in this thread wanted to see pics of the outside of the KH and the Warlock I had signed. I posted the inside pics so here’s a couple of the outside of the masks:
