I weathered some Walls coveralls in the style on H2. This way my first attempt on coveralls and they came out pretty good. I also hand painted the patches.
Should the coveralls have the patches, or would you go without any patches? Also, what is your opinion on adding blood? Thanks alot PHIL
Thanks for the comments. First , you remove the lining with scissors or an exacto knife to be more exact. I left the pockets in the coveralls so I could use them. I then took some 80 grit sand paper and sanded the arm and leg cuffs and the seams for the pocket zippers and the main zipper to give it a “frayed” look.
For dying, I actually got a cheap spray bottle at Walmart. I put half a box of dark green rit powder and alittle bit of dark brown rit liquid and filled the bottle with water. I mixed it up and tested it on some old shirt to see the result.(I suggest you do the same)
Put the bottle on the mist setting. Then, I found a good place outside to hang it (from a tree) where I could get full access to the whole suit. Then I started spraying the mixture on the coveralls, leaving areas of the original tan color lightly misted so that the tan still shows through. Spray the mixture at closer range in order to get a darker result (this should be done around the sleeve cuffs, knee area and leg cuffs to show wear.
Make sure the whole coveralls have been sprayed or lightly misted. Then let them set and soak in for about an hour. During this process the dye will drip some, but it creates a cool effect in my opinion.
Take the coveralls and put them in a washer. Sprinkle a very little bit of the dark green rit dye in the washer with very little detergent and wash the overalls on a regular setting with warm water. Then, wash them once more with just detergent.
The result should be a coveralls that appears faded. And if you don’t get the desired effect the first time it can be dyed again. You can do further weathering after it is dyed.
Hope this helps some. Thanks PHIL
Neon, for adding black (which would add an addition layer of “wear” I would go through and dye it using the process above and let it set for a few minutes then mix a mixture of dark green and black with water. Then spray it around the cuffs and pockets to get a dirtier look. Then you can weather it more after it has been washed a couple times and you should have a spectrum of 'wear" from dirty tan to dark green to darker green (almost black).
