Now that I think about it, I think it is more so of how many people will still recognize the KH/DW. I noticed that the NNM78 4 Stamp is harder to sell because there are so many new people in the hobby that are familiar with NAG Masks, but not as much for nightowl. Think it also has to deal with the recognition and popularity it still gets thru time.

honestly I been a big a KHDW fan since I first seen it on Facebook. It blew me away how it was so magical. You could put it on and look exactly like Warlock. Imagine if you could get your hands on Ken’s KHDW master or molds, wow that would be nice to be making them. I think someone said he destroyed them idk.

ps. the NDMM2 is larger overall than the HKDW…there are significant visual differences between the 2. So you will not get a “clone”. I really like the look of both…
There was a jc KH/DW up a few months ago for a pretty generous price. I don’t remember how much exactly but nobody seemed to jump at it. I don’t think it ever sold. That’s the last KH I’ve seen go up and it had been awhile since I had seen one before that.

Each of Ken’s masks seem to go for different looks. The KH/DW makes a great h2 but goes for more of a worn hero look like how the hero looked after the filming of both H1 and H2. This makes sense given what he had to work with. The KH/SLE was sorta the KHU before the KHU existed. It was supposed to be Ken’s Ultimate h2 mask. Now it kinda looks like a mix of both the DW and the Ultimate. The KHU is, in my opinion, the closest representation of the hero we have seen with it trying to capture the look of the hero on set of h2. Ken nailed it was 100%. The KH/DW will still always be my favorite.
I think that’s the one I’m talking about. 3,500 is pretty generous for a KH/DW itself (depending on number and finish) but having one also done by JC, I’d expect it to go for much more. I didn’t realize it was up on FB so it could’ve sold on there. I think it was also worn by Dick Warlock so this guy had a lot to back up a higher price.

I agree! For me, the KHU will always be my favorite Ken Hertlein mask no matter what! However, the KHU will always have a special place because of its history just like the NNM78 4 Stamp and 2005 Psycho!
I love the KH SLE too! It’s a middle ground of the KHU and DW like you said, and I don’t see many of those!
I think Ken still has both.

I remember way back to 2008 when Donnie ‘The Boogeyman 1978’ was a mod on here. We talked on FB alot.
I’m trying to remember if it was him or Matt ‘Dren The Liar’ had a KH SLE mask. I think Matt let him borrow it. Donnie had all kinds of cool pics wearing it. I remember he told me he loved the mask but he didn’t care for the nose on it. But it is a beautiful mask. I’m sure those run for a hell of alot since only a few were made. Anyhow It was Donnie that got me into Indy Myers Masks and to know that MM.NET existed.
The SLE is definitely a cool mask. They rarely pop up as the run was small. I don’t think there was even 10 masks made. Though they pop up rarely, last year one went up and ended up selling for around 500. I passed on it (kinda wish I hadn’t) but thats not bad compared to the others. That KH/AS that was up a few months ago ended up selling for like 150 but it was in pretty bad condition. The features on the SLE and AS are pretty identical so either is great with a nice finish. The SLE mainly looks different around the chin and seems to have more detail. A buddy of mine asked Andrew what exactly Ken changed with the AS from the SLE but idk if he ever got a reply.
I was told the SLE is a heavily retooled version of the KH/DW.

Indeed it is. Ken just changed some features up. Both Ken and Dick say it’s more accurate, and no doubt that’s true, but I still prefer the original. (Not my pic)
I’m actually curious how come you still prefer the KH/DW over the KHU and KH SLE? Is it history that is special? Or is there also more to it?
I think the KH/DW kinda has a built in Warlock look with the sculpt and pulls of the Warlock look the best outta the 3 (without any additional stuffing I mean) and it’s definitely a classic mask. All 3 masks are great in their own right and I’d love to own any one of them. I love h2 and the way Dick’s head stretched the mask. The KH/DW has that sag in the mask that the hero had after filming h2 which that sag helps the Warlock look. I’m also referring to an actual good copy. Some of the masks look better than others and some have been converted H1 which I don’t think they are meant to be pure white h1s. If it’s not what I consider a good copy then I’d take a good SLE or KHU. Love Ken’s stuff.
