I have a TV master of the Halloween II TV footage but unless someone else saved any actual “Rick Rosenthal Cut” film footage from Halloween II in their home, the original elements for Halloween II are long gone it seems. I don’t think we’ll ever see the true cut of Halloween II sadly.
Just because they have a drawn picture of Myers bleeding from the eyes on the cover doesn’t make it a good thing. They could have easily used original, never before released artwork from their respective years and that would have been easily better.
Great news about the reversible covers, that was talked about but I didn’t see that it was definite.
OK, I’m all for this release, and I’m going to obtain the new version of Halloween II on Blu-Ray regardless, but as I’m trying to pre-order, and have it sent to Canada, the SHIPPING is just as expensive as the Blu-Ray disc! That in itself is ridiculous. $60 for this set shipped to me? Crazy. It HAS to be a mistake (Sorry for the rant…)
EDIT: Well, I bit the bullet and swallowed the shipping costs! Can’t wait for September! Picked up both titles!
What is the footage we are talking about? I’ve never heard of the “Rick Rosenthal Cut”. I could have sworn that the Universal release had all the deleted scenes and the different ending.
Also, I never said it was a good thing that they put a drawing of Myers bleeding from the eyes on the cover. All I said is that there was a case for it not to be labeled “kiddie” looking. I kind of like the cover myself, as it is kind of different.
Rick’s original version of the script written by John and Debra is completely different than the theatrical release of Halloween II; if you read the 1981 book released, it’s more along the lines of that. John didn’t like what was originally filmed and apparently neither did Universal so he took the movie over and really messed with it in the editing room; re-shooting scenes, adding scenes, removing scenes and changing the entire movies pace. Rick was only filming what John and Debra wrote and I think John NEVER liked what he wrote so he started changing it after the movie was done filming.
So has anyone ever seen this version other than the filmmakers themselves? Or was the footage never ever released? That is very interesting, I never knew that happened with H2. I would love to see that cut myself, H2 has always been my favorite of the Halloween movies.
This is awesome… Now we can only hope if Shout Factory could some how get the rights to HALLOWEEN 6, then we could get a true blu-ray collector’s edition…
