So I just finalized my fan edit today which run at 2hrs 4mins. I call it the “Re-Directed Cut”.
I edited it with Sony Vegas pro so it’s all seamless and very professional looking. I have added scenes from the theatrical cut and some of the deleted scenes into the Directors cut.
I have two versions of it. One is with the theatrical cut ending and one with the original directors cut ending. I have added…
Laurie crying about her parents onto the therapy scene from the TC.
The scene with the lady seeing Michael in her backyard from the deleted scenes.
The scene where Laurie is working at Uncle Meats and then hallucinates Michael is hanging her from the tree taken from the deleted scenes.
When Laurie hallucinates killing Annie I chopped into the sequence Michael grabbing Laurie and Slashing her throat just before she wakes up in the glass coffin.
I added in the “Can I see the pig” scene from the TC.
The shot of the exterior Brackett house when Michael passes by the upstairs window just after Mya and Laurie are talking in the kitchen.
Now for the score.
I slowed down and shortened the following tracks and rescored them in the film.
Tyler Bates slowed down rendition of Carpenters “Lauries theme” which I scored over the opening scene when Laurie is walking shellshocked down the abandoned street in the rain.
A slowed down “Haunted House” theme from 1978 when Laurie is sitting waiting for buddy to return.
In the deleted scene with Laurie working in Uncle meats before she hallucinates I have “Don’t fear the reaper” as the music being played in the stores background.
Then when Laurie sees herself being hung I scored it with the slowed down “Lauries theme” which I re-edited to suit the scene length.
When Laurie calls to Mya and Harley to tell them she is Angel Myers I used the slowed down “Lauries Theme” which I re-edited to suit the moments length.
When Annie is in the house alone I used the “Haunted House” theme which I remixed and re-edited to suit the length.
I also used this same theme when Mya and Laurie are walking up the stairs before they find Annie.
More importantly after Laurie is shot in the DC ending I used the Dead can Dance track “The host of Seraphim” which then segues into the slowed down “Lauries theme” to show Laurie in the white room. If you are familiar with the movie “The Mist” this is the haunting melody used for the apocalyptic finale. It really mixes perfectly into the slowed down “Lauries theme” and really enhances the tragedy of Lauries death. I finished with “Love Hurts” over the credits followed by the “Halloween theme” and more random Tyler Bates score.
Another thing is that I made a piano clink sting identical to the one that was used throughout the leaked trailer for “Halloween II” which is basically the first two notes of “Lauries theme” slowed down. I placed it at suitable moments throughout the film.
If anyone is interested in seeing this let me know and I’ll upload it.
