in the end Karen told to her daughter that ‘this was not a cage,it’s a trap’’ …so Karen knew that for years -when she was a kid and Laurie training her to be ready for Michael’s return- or Laurie told her the truth about the cage when michael entered the house ?
Cages hold; traps kill. I figured she was just telling her or reminding her the house wasn’t built to hold him it was built to kill him.
She knew. Laurie spent Karen’s childhood prepping her for that night. After the dinner scene when we get the flashback, Karen is running around the woods and we hear her say”gotcha” as she aims her rifle in the woods. I imagine they had this planned down to the last detail when she was a kid.

well yes this seems right.but when michael entered the house laurie told to karen ‘‘I know that you thought that this was my cage…’’ …and they cut the scene and after that they showed michael inside the house…maybe karen didn’t know or forgot the ‘‘true use’’ of the basement and laurie told her the ‘‘details’’ before she goes upstairs and fights michael …and they didn’t show us the dialogue of Laurie-karen because they wanted the ‘trap ending’ to be a ‘‘surprise’’ to us…I don’t know this is just my thought
