I’ve got a silly question. Other than it being vintage now, what is so special about the hair used on the Myers mask? I’ve heard that the type is next to impossible to get. I know Don Post used it on other mask at the time. I thought it was just blond mohair…am I wrong? If so can someone please explain.
I can tell you it’s not mohair. It’s the hairs’ properties that make it so special. How it gets all matted up, how it naturally locks itself and frizzes. It’s a very difficult thing to duplicate with most hair.
It’s hard to believe that in this day and age that no one is produsing it. You’d think Don Post would at least try and get the hair right but then again…
But then again… Don Post isn’t making any effort to get ANYTHING right at the moment.
The “kirk” hair Don post used in the 60’s and 70’s was at the time cheap and thats why they used it…in the 80’s you see the Camel type hair, they used that because it was the cheapest…basically whatever was the cheapest hair Don post could get is what they would use.
Now Don post sold there company, so don’t expect anything good from them ever again.
Just can’t believe no one has tracked it down, someone somewhere has got to still make it. I wish I had merchandising rights…Man I would make ALOT OF FANS HAPPY . I’d give them the mask they wanted commercially. That’s why I like movies that are made by fans of whatever that like the franchise or character that they may be doing. The try to give the fans what they want…instead of throwing out another white mask with brown or black hair on it. The original 74’ leatherface that came out a few years ago was pretty nice for a mass produced mask.
Ther are a couple vintage DP’s that use the same hair.I believe if you find a Hunchback it is the same type.
orrect me if Im wrong but wasnt it Yak belly hair?
Nope it was Oragutan hair… sprayed painted black…
there are a few different don post masks that have “kirk” hair…
