I rehauled my first masks ever, I did 2 tots Kirks and a tots Art the clown, I mainly want to keep doing myers but don’t understand how to shade things without my paint sticking so much on spots like the lips and nose, any pointers will be greatly appreciated, also I new major improvements since my eye cuts are so bad
I’ve been painting on these things for years, and the eyecuts still give me a fit to be polite. Yours are honestly fine. Not perfect, but as I said, not an easy task for me to confidently do either. I made the largest leap as far as painting is concerned when I got an airbrush set up. Nothing high end, but not bottom of the barrel. Plenty of painting techniques on youtube. Check out Nick Mulpagano. Entertaining nice guy and absolute pro. Your Art looks nice as well. Just like anything, if you enjoy it, keep at it. ![]()
The clown and the H2 were done with brushes, the H1 was airbrushed, it’s the shading I can’t do, I’m wondering if people do it with the airbrush or regular brushes like me for the weathering and shading.
Your work looks good! Any application is valid as long as it works for you. Even a stick and a rag can yield great results. Focus on techniques, enjoy the process, keep learning, and find what works best for you. Hone your skills and keep them sharp!
I like to dry brush when it comes to shading, it´s tricky but it is so so worth it!
Alot are done with washes of black acrylic for weathering. If youir dry brushing use a make up brush and get very little paint on it then go in and pepper it on. You can always go back with some white to blend it in. Some constructive critism would be the lips on the masks , especially the H2 it is overpainted. The H1’s need to be smoothed out. But good job nonetheless.
