Enjoy guys! You’re more than welcome to put some of these in the gallery if you like. This mask is pretty sweet looking under low lighting. It even has the little indention above the left eye. I guess you can call this a 2nd generation Kirk. I have already sold him and the person who bought him is going to take good care of him and not convert it. Don’t ask me who bought it, they wish to remain anonymous, so I’m going to respect their wishes.
I found this Shanter in Pittsburgh, PA at a comic book store called Eides; it’s off the strip. It’s a pretty sweet shop in the basement of a 3 story building. The 2nd floor sales music and the 3rd floor has used movies, magazines, books, and music for sale. I found a lot of old Fangoria magazines there too, even the H4 issue from 1988. Many of you want to know how much I paid for that mask, I only paid $40 for it. When I bought it I wasn’t for sure what it was. I thought it was some independently made mask since it didn’t have any copyright stamps on it and it had eyeballs (75 Kirks don’t have eyeballs). The friends I was with thought it was kinda weird that I bought a Kirk mask since I didn’t even like Star Trek. I tried to explain to them that the original Michael Myers mask was very similar to this one. They really didn’t believe me. Now they see
So inclosing all I can say is keep looking guys. You never know what you will find unless you look. I didn’t think I would ever find anything like this. To be honest with you I didn’t want to visit that comic store that day cause I was sick and I was very tired from all the Halloween partying from the night before and I really wanted to go home and get my 5 hour road trip out of the way. So it’s good to put your feelings aside in favor of your friends. Kinda like going to see a movie that your buddy wants to see but you could give a rat’s arse about. Put your wants aside in favor of others needs and you will be rewarded.
God that thing is awesome, great H1 feel and look. Congrats to the person who bought it, I think I’m going to start a massive hunt for any Kirk or Don Post from back in the day.

That is the most 1-off 98 Shatner I’ve ever seen… seriously, it looks like it was pulled from the same mold as the Hero. Lots of subtle details there that really make it shine! Congrats on finding this beauty and I’m glad you were rewarded for it. After really thinking it over, I wouldn’t touch a thing on this mask… I think it will hold more value left as-is, considering we haven’t seen any others like it.
Also, for anyone thinking of calling Eide’s and trying to score another… forget about it. I contacted them the day this was originally posted and he said it was the only one they had - he even went out of his way to look through old boxes and in storage and no luck.
This mask is definitely a treasure in the community. Hope we get to see more pics from the new owner!

Yeah this thing is very nice, it is very close to the 75…thats because it’s a recast of the 75. Don Post then decided it was to small, so they inlarged it…thats why the 98 shanter run looks so bad.
So basically what we have here is a 2nd generation recast 75 kirk. (credit goes to a good source for this info) you know who you are

I agree with Chad that this shouldn’t be touched and should be left as is.
The eye holes that have been cut to see do not match the HERO anyway.

The mask is really small. You can see in some of my pics how it measures up to the other ones. I could only see a kid or a young Teenager wearing it. An adult could not wear it without spliting it. Makes me wonder how small the 75 kirk was, cause we all know Nick Castle has a long face.
I would say the thickness was medium. Not thin like a DP 86 mask but not as thick as Night Owl mask. The 98 could almost stand up on it’s own. I think that’s why the details show up so well in the pics.
