Shanter 98 pic link :)

The mask is not a recast; the mask was made from the first ‘untweeked’ laser scan of the production 1975 Capt. Kirk mask that Don Post, Jr. has. The mask is the exact same size as an actual 75 Capt. Kirk.

Has or Had? DPS Jr. Had Pete Roberts old 75 for a bit during the trial between dps and CS. I could see him using that mask for the scan, but then again, how great was a laser scan in 1998? Don’t get me wrong, this mask is incredible too say the least, but 100% in size and detail, Im not sure. Im sure when this thing gets pressed and retooled (wink wink) It’s really going too shine. Great score. I kick myself I miseed out in snagging it.

That really is a sweet looking mask and I’m so glad that you ran across it!

Don Post, Jr. still has a production 1975 Capt. Kirk pull; Don does not have the mold however.

The 1998/99 Shatners started from a laser scanned 1975 Kirk and tweeked by Darren Perks.

In March of 1998 I saw this mask up in Chicago. It was small, the same size as my Kirk I had and looked very accurate. I commented on how small it was and Don said it’s the size of an actual 1975 Kirk. Myself and Don Post walked around the entire convention and he asked me to carry this mask to show some vendors like Morris Costumes. Also up there was the first Calendar Re-issues that people were freaking out over.

Obviously something happened and Don had Darren ‘tweek’ it in to what was more commonly found on the market. I was just as shocked as everyone else when I first saw this mask.

Uncanny how they resemble J-MAN
I agree with Chad that this shouldn’t be touched and should be left as is.
The eye holes that have been cut to see do not match the HERO anyway.
It screams HERO as it is [/quote/]

Check this one out brudda!
Check the nose, eyebrows, mouth cheeks, the whole thing… :open_mouth:

Cool stuff J
The Nightmare,Psycho, and NM78, which originated from Billy’s Kirk, all rule but one problem…
The’re all a tad big for me
Wish all the makers made Kirk size ones…

One of the most amazing kirks I’ve ever seen, it even looks vintage. I hope the new owner comes forward with more pics.
Thanks so much for sharing. Great stuff.

Yeah I remember reading all about that. They found the old mold and ran a laser through it to reproduce it and clean it up a little. It’s not a recast; there is just too much details that show up. Also I remember that was DP’s selling point for the high dollar mask at the time, they were making people think just because they had to use a laser that would justify the price they wanted for it. Now the size thing is true. I’ve heard Kirk owner after Kirk owner talk about how small the old ones are. Back in the day mask makers were making Kirks that small cause those were the old measurements of the original. Nightowl an MMP were some of the very first people who started making Larger masks for fans. I hate to say this but I would have not gotten into this hobby and found this board if it had not been for MMP. Too bad things ended up the way it did for them.

Snag a nightmare bro,
Its small. I would say a tad larger than the kirk because I have a H-78 retool that is the same size and thickness of the kirk. My nightmare is a tad larger than my H-78 Retool. If small is what you looking go, snag the nightmare from Nik…
Later!
