she may have potentially smoked cigars. i say this because I had an old 85/86 don post on a shelf that was around cigar smoke for close to a year and yellowed almost exactly the same way. Interestingly enough the tar from the smoke thickened in places such as the nose and lips and made those areas much darker. i think i may have a photo somewhere I will post if I find it
HAHAHHA, Scott, that is total proof! Great thread Anthony, good read. All this yellowing from smoking is debatable, not the point of her smoking, but case in hand… My old CGP Nemesis is yellow and it has not had smoke around it, so go figure. Could be other factors making it yellow, who really knows.
Glad you enjoyed the read matey,i believe the reason a lot of the older CGP masks yellowed was to do with the type paint Terry used at the time
so can’t really associate the same thing to the Hero ![]()
Maybe Debra pissed the bed on occasions after nights of heavy drinking and it seeped thru the mattress into the box and onto the mask staining it

anythings possible ![]()
Just saying there are other contributing factors to the yellowing of a mask, I wasn’t comparing it directly to the Hero. ![]()
Chemical breakdown in the latex ![]()
Several factors could to the mask yellowing: the mask being stored improperly, the mask being painted incorrectly with paint not approved for latex and/or the sealant going bad on the mask. I would say one of these easily over Debra smoking. I have a bunch of Debra Hill photographs and she doesn’t have a cigarette in her hand at all unlike John who has one all the time.
Interesting read about Debra asking Melanie to quit smoking…hummmm.

Yeah i seen that before about Debra asking Melanie to quit smoking, maybe could have been that Debra had quit smoking at that time and she wanted to give some good advice/encouragement from past experience.smoking kills end of story.also i doubt they used sealant on the paint job,we aren’t talking James Carter 2013 here we are talking about TLW back in 78 using an aerosol can,and the paint would not have wore off the mask like it did had a sealant been applied ![]()
Every single one of my SSN Myers masks have yellowed. My DPS Calendar masks are yellowing. Why, the sealent or the conditions of either being too dark, too much light, too hot or cold. I’d rather blame the conditions or the sealent over smoking. My parents smoked while I was a kid, I don’t remember any of my masks yellowing then. I have never smoked and don’t allow it in my house so I know my masks yellowing has nothing to do with smoke.
When I asked John at Flashback weekend last year he said no, she never smoked. However, during the sixties she was in her teens and seems like a free spirit and I have no doubts about her experimenting with pot.
John gets confused easily and forgets many things, just listen to his commentary voice over with Keith Gordon throughout Christine commentary feature set on,Gordon had to keep jogging his memory about everything and correcting him ![]()
There are 2 films from John that he hates talking about…and you just mentioned one. John has stated he went thru the motions on Christine and never had any feelings for the movie. John was still heartbroken over the critical failure of The Thing so I will forgive John not remembering anything about the making of that film. However, John is pretty sharp as a knife on commentaries on Escape from New York, They Live, Halloween, Starman, Big Trouble in Little China, Vampires and In the Mouth of Madness.

Right,i did get that kind of impression from his commentary on Christine,in fact he said that was the first time he’d sat down and watched that movie pretty much since shooting it,and i immediately thought wow are you serious?.
Crazy where this topic has ended up
gotta love it though ![]()
When Loomis shoots out the window in the marshall’s car & the car spins around. It’s actually Dick Warlock spinning the car around. (This is mentioned by Dick Warlock on the commentary track).
The reason Dick Warlock used a ramp to fall off the balcony was because this was the only way Dick Warlock could land on his back.He tried flipping over the balcony but kept landing on his front.
