Well, I recall several months back (9 to be precise…) when talk of Todd (Jason X) Farmer and Patrick Lussier taking over for ‘Halloween 3D’ hit the news wires. I’ve mentioned before about my personal contacts in the business, and those who know me know that I generally won’t pull punches and I’ll often tell it like it is.
I shot down the rumor of Famer/Lussier and was promptly attacked for it by some of the “fanboys” who for whatever reason seemingly LOVED Farmers writing on Jason X (God help us all…) Either way, when I shot the rumor down, I also added that they were only brought in/commissioned to write an IDEA of Halloween, they were never contracted for hire on the new project, not once infact. The idea was NOT well received by the higher-ups and it was scrapped.
Dimension has never really had Halloween on the forefront IMO, and the results speak for themselves. We won’t get into the RZH series or where it may, or may not have gone wrong, but what people need to understand and take into serious consideration, is that Moustapha (God rest his soul) had been shopping the franchise around to potential buyers for quite some time BEFORE RZH came to fruition. The lead buyer on said list? Lionsgate.
Moustapha was so bothered by Dimension and the Weinsteins, that he was actively looking to bounce from them altogether. However, as history would have it, Moustapha passed and the rest is well documented.
Enter-Platinum Dunes. They have quietly been talking to Dimension about taking over the producing duties, writing and revamping (Again, thank God) of the Halloween series. Talks have been on-going and it looks like it will most likely happen sooner rather than later. Love them or hate them, they know a thing or 2 about remakes in the genre, and for my money, Friday The 13th, Chainsaw and even Elm Street, were B+ films in my book.
This new film will NOT follow RZH (Again, thank God) and will be a new, properly done remake. No 3D, no gimmicky bull$hit to waste extra money on a ticket for, a simple, straight up, done right film in the vein of the classic.
To those who told me I was wrong and full of it 9 months back, thanks, I love the haters more than anyone else. To those who listened to what I had to say, much love as always, you know who you are.
As the months progress, more news of this will come out and in greater detail than I can reveal at this time. But, either way, whether the Dunes talk falls through or not, the NEW Halloween release, will be another re-telling/reboot/remake from the get go and the RZ nonsense, will never be seen or heard from again. No Farmer, no Jason X-esque writing and a back-to-basics return to Haddonfield USA, NOT Haddonfield ‘I need a shower and fu&k, fu&k, fu&k, motherfu&ker, fu&k you, and blah, blah, blah’
