TOTs gets H1,H4,H5 licenses

I could swear I read somewhere there was a reason Chris Nelson made a couple changes on the 2018 mask so it did look different. I’ve read in the past Shatner wanted way to high of a price for royalties etc. but with small indie mask makers it’s not s big deal, but with mass production and licenses it’s a different story. I won’t hold my breath on an H1 from tots that’s the closest we’ve ever seen to the HERO, however they can do a castle stretch or whatever for the same reason Nelson made the 2018 mask to not take the form of the original HERO. That all being said I’d love to see some incredible from TOTS, but I can also see a lawyer tellling them that his likesness was sold to Star Trek and it was sold to TOTS for that but not appoval for that same likeness to be altered for a horror film.

I believe Chris couldn’t make it exactly like the original '78 because they didn’t have rights to the first film, not to Shatner.

Yes I spoke to Chris Zephro at HorrorHound on Saturday. We spoke for like 10 mins, about all sorts of things. He told me they got the license for H1, 4 and 5. Justin doing a new sculpt for H1. Also new costumes as well, Loomis, and Laurie.

Sounds awesome, nothing wrong with more readily available good to decent myers masks imo.

If not TOTS it would be someone else, Indy masks are going to always be around. I say bring it on.

Considering everything so far has been a Nightowl sculpt turned mass-produced I’m seriously interested in seeing what Justin will come up with for a H1 mask dedicated to a larger audience.

I think the Slasher would be the perfect TOTS H1, if they can produce it

Chris Zephro spilled the beans at Mask fest… He is going to have some AWESOME products coming out soon…

I was thinking that wouldn’t having a TOTS Kirk mask and having it converted by a professional like many people are doing now, be more a screen accurate than whatever the new sculpt will be for the first TOTS H1 mask coming next year?

I would imagine they would have switch from the usual production workers used on the floor to people like Justin himself or other artists they have there that mainly work on prototypes, sculpts, paint masters etc which is probley not something with how a lot of them are involved with the business would have the time to do while still making their normal contributions to the company.

Why were you disappointed in the Elrod, I was planning on buying it.

What was wrong with the TOTS Kirk mask?

The age old question… quantity, or quality?

Not sure why anyone would be disappointed in TOTS getting the license over Rubies. Yeah, the $60-$80 TOTS masks aren’t going to be the show stealers that a $300-$500 mask will, but they still look great either in use or on display (as always with mass production, YMMV with paint and hairlines, etc.). I have many of their masks and props and haven’t had an issue with any of them.

I’m not him, so I don’t want to say this is his opinion, but I’m guessing either the size or the hair. It’s a smaller mask

Bug-eyes

Well Im actually counting on that considering my head is like 22", and the hair I can learn to live with.

It’s really not too bad if you style the hair with some water/gel/hairspray. Maybe slit the mouth and give it a castle stretch. Well, that’s what I did with mine. Totally up to you

Who knows, if rumors are true and TOTS is doing a ground-up H1 sculpt it may look like an indy mask. A few of those 2018 Protos were amazing and almost looked screen-used

The general shape is not bad, it’s just a bit puffy and lacking in detail. I think it may have been enlarged from the NO Shat, because the TOTS Kirk is nearly as big as the HII Deluxe.
If they can make a crisp 2018, why not a crisp Kirk-a-like. Eh?

Any techniques for weathering? I know one good method is to put a drop of acrylic paint in a water cup, and mix it up well, then brush the water onto the mask, wait a couple of seconds and then wipe it off, and do that in layers, which is what I was planning to do, but I got some cheap rubies half face Myers mask to test that out on. Any tips for making the glue line, and getting good shading under the cheeks?

Honestly, I don’t believe I would be able to give you the best advice. What you typed is what I’d probably do myself. I’ve heard rubber cement works good for the glue lines. Maybe dab some of the masks loose hairs in the cement to make it look like hair was torn off. And for the shading, I’d do what you typed but with black acrylic, and just make sure you make it subtle at first. You can always add more, but it’s hard to take it off. I think.
