Was Michael supposed to die in the original '78 film?

Got it, good luck!

I always wondered if it was actually Jim Winburn lying on the ground in the original version with Michael dead, as he has stated that they filmed him on the ground after he did the balcony fall. We know that Nick Castle did the reshoot because of the funny dance moves story.

I also have to wonder if there is footage of Loomis reacting to Michael being dead. It’s of course well known that they filmed two versions of his reaction to an empty backyard, so hopefully we get to see that one day.

Yes, I’ve located that take for Loomis. Not sure who played the Shape in the original ending because several spools of footage are unnumbered that correspond with the line script I have the end footage. I’ve found some really cool cool stuff…like, what Laurie is writing on the piece of paper in class. I found the insert shot. I have also found something…someone actually, who’s scene was cut as they were getting it set up to be filmed and then they decided shooting the scene. I’ve found Laurie’s original bedroom take in the studio before being refilmed. TV footage, different angles, tests with filters…8 to 9 hours of stuff. Pristine camera negative. But… it’s worthless.

Is the shot of Michael dead the same as the shot we see of him lying down? Or is it another shot? Also, do you know how the film actually ends? In terms of what shot?

Not sure…never transferred the footage about being dead. The camera pans up from the tree after you see Myers dead. I found that insert.

Wow! I love it!  I could be asking you questions all day now lol! Just one more question, does that shot pan up from the tree from the last shot we see of Myers in the final cut? Or is the camera positioned somewhere else? Also what is in frame when the camera pans up? Is it facing towards the house or away towards the streets / backyard?

P.S. What dance move was Nick doing? Was it then modern 70’s type disco or softer dancing like swing? I know his father was a famous choreographer for the old type of dancing like streetswing so I can imagine that’s what Nick was doing. But also can’t get this image out of my head of Nick doing a John Travolta  I need to get this image in my head straight haha

Pans up from the balcony as you look down.

Nick dances…vaudeville style.

Damn man, thank you so much for everything! I hope one day I’ll be able to bump into you and see it in the flesh. Until then take care man and have a great day!

HA! Yes! I found it!

“Most intriguingly, Wallace revealed that HALLOWEEN’s original ending was completely different from the one that gave nightmares to generations of viewers. “He told me Michael died,” and stayed dead, May says, “and the supposed script that people get on-line or at conventions is not what they originally used. They didn’t decide to let Michael live until after they finished principal photography and went back for some reshoots.”

Thank you, Billy or Don, I’m not sure which of you is Kirk Magnum, but you helped me scratch an itch that wouldn’t go away. I appreciate you taking the time to respond to my thread!

Best,
Hedge

Kirk Magnum is me, Billy Kirkus. I’m not going to get into it but, Don May was never apart of any ownership of this footage no matter how much he said he was. Don May is not affiliated with any of this.

Would be interested to know where the info on Laurie’s original bedroom been filmed in a studio came from? I know the location in the photo below (which surely has to be the original version) is 100% a practical one, not a studio.

Curious if your footage matches this photo?

I can’t help but wonder if the people on set were laughing when Nick did this, aside from what you have mentioned here, I have wondered if there is footage of Nick goofing off on set both in the mask and without it, or even test shots of him in the masks

I might be crazy and imagining it (likely) but I SWEAR I’ve seen a still of him dancing away or a video of some kind with a watermark over it. Was this ever transferred or released by you?

Thank you!

Sure thing. I know that feeling.

That’s the funniest thing I’ve seen Nick do in the costume yet! also found this part to it as well from an old petition, that being said, I can totally see why the footage is kept under wraps, not just from a legal stand point, but also cause his watermark would be removed from the footage itself
