In the original Halloween, when Laurie pulls The Shape’s mask off…what if it had been Nick Castle’s face we saw as Michael Myers instead of Tony Moran.
Do you think Myers would have been more scary? less scary?
Less IMO…Tony morans face was priceless…It looked like there was something seriously wrong with that dude but did look normal at the same time LoL…He had a very creepy look with those eyes …Yeah his mug did the job well …
I honestly think they made a wise decision using Tony Moran as the stand in. I can’t fully explain why. Nick Castle just didn’t look like what I invisioned Myers looking like the whole time. Moran fit the part well.
But why he prides himself on the 2 seconds of screen time is beyond me. It really made me sick to my stomach while vending next to his booth a couple years back. Hearing so many naive people coming up for an autograph saying, “you have no idea how badly you scared me when I was a kid! I mean, YOU are the original Michael Myers! It’s such an honor to meet you”. Then he’d put on a fake smile and utter, “Yep, that was me. Glad I was able to scare you. It really was a blast working on the film with everyone.”
That is, ofcourse, was when he was actually AT his table. He was literally gone at least 75 percent of the time. Even while he was there he was too busy texting or talking to someone on his cell phone.
ajburton29, that is a very interesting question. For me, it’s hard to say but I think on one hand if Nick had given that same evil, spaced-out stare he did in the particular behind-the-scenes pic where he was holding the mask next to his head maybe he would have added to the terrifying look of that mask. On the other hand others may feel it could have taken away from the unpredictiblilty of the shapes presence of evil. What it boils down to for me is that it could have worked out just as well. I believe (from what I’ve seen and heard anyway) is that John Carpenter intended for Tony Moran to be the face of Michael simply with the fact that he does not appear to be what you would expect out of a cold-blooded killer, Normal and almost angelic looking.
Ive always understood it that Tony played myers in a few parts but I could be wrong…I mean they did use the man’s face…I will classify him as “one of the guys” who played michael myers…Hell quite a few can be credited for myers actually but its no secret that Nick castle was the main man…But I will still credit Tony for the job on some level…Everytime ive seen him at monster mania he is always great with the fans and a very friendly guy…Me and some friends had drinks with him at the hotel Bar at MM8…I bought him a round, he bought us a few rounds and he always walks around at Night and mingles with the fans…Thats just my experince with him…I thought he was really cool…At the Bar he wasnt crediting himself for the whole film and did say it was nik most of the time…He said they used him for a few scenes and the unmasking…Hell if it was me id be the same way…
Heck I got to don the Hero as myers for a few scenes and I was the face of myers…So id want some credit LoL…Byt thats just how I see anyway…Only my opinion bro…Later guys
See, I don’t blame the guy for getting credit. Or even WANTING credit. But the complete truth that he makes himself out as though he was the main character.
I bought an autograph from him the first time I met him, sure. And if I didn’t have one and met him tomorrow, I’d want one still. I’d want one because he was a part of the film. Not because I don’t know better and assume he was THE Myers like many convention goers do. Ari Lehman, although a nice guy, is very similar as far as his ego goes.
I see what your saying bro…He just didnt come off that way when I met and had drinks with him…He was truthfull about his role…I mean He isnt the main character no, We all know that…But he was the original michael myers on one part of the film and is the face of michael myers…Thats why I like and want his signature…Oh well though its just opinions right
Now was the unmasking scene his only part…I thought he was used in a few others also…
I believe he also did the gunshot scene off of the balcony. So I admit, he had more then 2 seconds, but still not the entire movie. Which technically, I suppose, even Castle didn’t do. I completely agree with you on the autograph aspect, and that’s why I had him sign a photo for me too. I suppose I just feel kinda bad for those who get his autograph thinking something that’s not entirely true. I guess what they don’t know can’t hurt them, though.
No I completely understand that my friend…Getting the autograph and thinking he was the main man is kind of a drag if you find out the truth later …But in any event I do think his face was perfect for the role…Later guys
