The thing that makes Michael Myers scary, in my opinion, Is that he is emotionless. He doesn’t speak or deal with reason. That is frightening!! And then he wears that white emotionless mask! Lol! Scary shit!
I agree with all of you guys! Nice to hear what you guys think!
Everything you have said from past films to remakes is great!
The direction in the series could go many different ways at this point. Going back to basics is usually the best way to go. Look at what the new Evil Dead did! All practical FX, simple plot, similar feel to the original, added its own touches, and payed homage to the original as well! It was also not corrupted by hollywood people, and directed by a true fan of the series.
If something like that could happen to the Halloween franchise, that would be FANTASTIC! Do something new while using a good handful of the source material. Change things up! haha
MICHAEL MYERS IS THE MOST DARKEST SLASHER EVER CREATED . HE IS THE JINX OF ALL JINXES .SCARIER THAN JASON AND FREDDY . HE IS MORE ALLUSIVE. MORE EVIL AND UNPREDICTABLE . HIS CHARACTER IS MORE BELIEVABLE THAN THE REST .HIS BACKGROUND STORY IS VERY DISTURBING . IT GRIPS REALITY. HE IS COLD EMOTIONLESS . FREDDY AND JASON HAS SHOWN FEAR ,MICHAEL HAS NEVER SHOWN FEAR AND WILL NEVER DIE OR STOP HE IS FEAR IT’S SELF
Question 1: He’s sneaky. That’s what makes him scary in the first place. He could be in any place at any time, and you’d never know it. You run to your house and lock the doors? Too late, he’s already inside! How did he get there? An open window, perhaps, you don’t really know. All you know is that if you stand there and dwell on it, you’re dead. The lack of motive also made Myers incredibly creepy. Even when they went with the sister angle in Halloween II, it was still very mysterious. Okay, he kills his sisters… but why? Does he hate his family? Does he not like teenagers? So many questions that should never have been answered.
Question 2: They humanized him. They humanized something that never should have been humanized. In Halloween 5 they give him a soft spot for his niece. In Halloween 6, they make him out as the victim of a cult, killing not because he likes it, but because he’s cursed. In the remakes, they play Michael Myers as the victim even more: a product of school yard bullies, and a broken home. You don’t humanize evil, because when you do, you start to sympathize with it, and when you sympathize with it, it becomes a less foreboding and less menacing force.
Question 3: I’m not exactly sure if it’s truly possible to ever go back to what Michael Myers was on Halloween night, 1978. Much like the mask itself, it was lightning in a bottle. Something that nobody was 100% confident would work, but ended up being a success completely by chance anyway. You have the mind of John Carpenter, mixed with a random friend of his that just so happens to have pulled of the Shape thing better than anybody since!
That’s not eyeshadow, that’s all Nick Castle.
The thought of being impaled by a gigantic butcher knife is scary enough. Pretty sure that wouldn’t feel too pleasant.
This was well said.
Definitely the original soundtrack. That makes the Shape and it’s what I remember
He’s intimidating and he seems to do it deliberately - standing in plain view, very obviously watching (making his presence known), drives past slowly and stops up ahead in the original film. Actions seem automatic and/or very calculated.
His removal from emotions and his curiosity about death. The way he just takes his time to arrive at the exact spot where you are standing without any effort. The thought of making him angry at you for only reasons he would know.
Yeah, stone cold killer, but with a mission to find his long lost sister, who will walk through anything to feed his destiny
