myers mask went fast at haloween time and would sell out…the best i could do was to paint a pull of MY face white , cut out the eyes and slap some hair from another mask on it-MY FIRST MYERS MASK-
My first ever Myers mask was a Cinema Secrets Classic that I got for Christmas around 1998. I begged and begged my parents to get one for me, I found an ad online about a new Michael Myers mask coming out and the ad looked decent although the mask itself advertised was actually an illustration but it still got me excited. When I finally got it, I couldn’t believe that it was the actual product from that cool ad. The neck was long and I got it around when Halloween: H20 came out so I tried to cut it to make it look like the neck of the Hero in the film. I still have it to this day, the hair was constantly falling out and it was balding, so I got fed up with it one day and pulled all of the hair off.
I also got the doll around the same time, crazy thing is that there was actually a photo taken right after I picked the doll off the shelves in Spencer’s Gifts in 1998, talk about nostalgic… I wish I kept it in the box, though, the box is long gone.
That’s killer, man. Great photos. “Spencer’s Gifts in 1998” was as live as it could get. I remember going there all the time. The dolls, big heads, shirts, masks, etc. It was so much fun. 1998 kinda started the Halloween craze all over, again!!!
Haha, I always hang onto these particular two pics for threads like this. I’m sure most have seen these, but I had this ugly thing as my first mask (NAG Screenused H1 #18). Got it during the month I first registered for MM.net from Nic back when he was selling some of them on eBay. Also picked up, and still have, my JC Lamson replica along with my Big Macs during that same month. I’ve since dyed and weathered the Big Macs and picked up a sweet pair of jungle boots…they look so much better now. Owned the mask for five years, and here’s a pic of me wearing everything for the first time in October 2009.
Thanks for the compliment. Yeah, those were the days. I agree on 1998 being the year that kicked Halloween back into gears, I was very young at that time but I remember vividly watching Halloween: H20 previews on TV, I wanted to see it so bad. My dad is also a horror fan (he’s actually a member here but he rarely posts), the previews got him so excited that he went out and bought HalloweeN and HalloweeN II VHS tapes, I actually still have those VHS tapes. That was the first time I was exposed to the Halloween franchise. He took me to see Halloween: H20 in the theater.
My next mask was a nice Cinema Secrets Resurrection mask (not the economy version nor the limited 1-15 version) that I got back in 2002, I have some pictures taken with it somewhere. I sold it to someone near me around a year ago. Then the Myers mask boom really started around that time. I got an original run MMP Samhain and JITB Nightmare in early 2004 (those were my first independent Myers masks), I had these masks for a long time until I sold both of those around a year ago. The Samhain went to Chris Morgan and the Nightmare went to a guy in Scotland who is now a friend of mine.
It was a MMFX Blood Brother that I spotted on ebay. There was something so unique about the sculpt. I guess it was really the first “original” take on the white mask that I had seen. It looked nothing like the Hero to me but it captured my imagination for some reason and it was a quick buy at $75. I had just started to dig through the gallery and educate myself as to all of the artists/studios, and hadn’t seen anything MMFX related yet so I had no idea about any of Bob’s masks at the time.
I said it last year and I’ll say it again…going through the gallery for the first time and seeing all of the different masks and reading through the list of incredible names, was truly something special. That is something that I’ll never forget.
DP 85. I was 6 years old when I got it, I’m 34 now. Still in amazing condition. I have bought many after it. Spending over 500$ for a mask at a time but this is still my favorite, no doubt. Until I get an actual DP 75 at least.
