Originally Halloween II 1981 had my favorite Theme and Soundtrack in the franchise. That changed when Halloween II 2018 came out. Now I must say Halloween 2018 has my favorite soundtrack in the franchise with the exception of the main theme. That spot still belongs to Halloween 1981.
I love the start of the H20 theme, but I think they overdo it a bit with the flourishes, which detract from the main tune. Plus it’s in the wrong key so some of the runs sound too ‘major’ to my ears.
I remember the first time I watched H2 and heard the synth version of the theme thinking how powerful it sounded, so I’ll stick with that one, but ironically for the worst entry in the franchise I think Resurrection has a great theme.
I think Halloween 1978 goes without saying. That being said, Halloween II 1981, and H40 have great themes. I love what Alan brought to Halloween II with the theme, and the classic yet updated sounds of H40 really stuck me as well.
Of course 1978 reigns king but I actually enjoy the additions and modifications made for the new film so I’m going to have to give 2nd place to H40
Halloween II is my all time favorite version of the main theme. It just has a sound about it that feels creepier to me than the original theme.
Don’t get me wrong, the original theme from 78’ is iconic, but part 2 sticks with me more for whatever reason.
With that said, H40’s main title theme is right up there next to part 1 and 2. It’s my second favorite version now. It’s basically the same as 78’, but there’s the little subtle upgrades to it Carpenter and son made, that just grabbed me in a way that part 2 did back in the day. Very badass soundtrack from H40.
I have the Pumpkin orange Vinyl of the new soundtrack, and it’s by far in my top 3 soundtracks from this franchise. It is one of the best by far. Nothing beats that John Carpenter sound, those little things as simple as the bass drum kicks and shit like that, that is instantly identifiable as a John Carpenter score. Just totally badass.
And maybe it’s just me, but I hear little touches of Christine, and other Carpenter scores in the H40 soundtrack. It’s completely badass awesome stuff. Love it.
Halloween 2018 is my favorite, the shape hunts allyson gives me chills everytime. I love the h1 and h2 scores like everybody else, but imo 2018 has the best soundtrack.

Finally seeing some H40 love at the end of this thread. I loved the new soundtrack almost as much as the original. “The Shape Kills Again”, “The Shape Hunts Allyson”, “The Grind”… there’s so many great scores!
I’ll be honest, my second favorite behind the first film’s theme is H4. In my opinion that movie is probably Howarth’s best soundtrack out of the entire series and one of the best soundtracks in the series overall, the theme is short but I just love how it sounds.
H2 and H6 for me. Probably because I’m an 80s kid and a 90s teenager lol.
I do like the H6 Soundtrack. The heavy metal vibe is a nice touch. And I know all about being an 80’s kid and 90’s teenager lol. Your not alone my friend! But the H40 soundtrack is definitely badass. That classic Carpenter sound through and through.
