And this is your opinion and I disagree 100%. We are all entitled to them. Not open minded enough? Really? I personally call em like I see em. Just another “murder” movie Different strokes bud…
Because it’s just not everyone’s “cup of tea”. I resent the films greatly, yes. But after 10 years, I can see why others like them so much. I myself don’t understand why so many fans still hate entries like ‘Halloween 4’, what I’d consider to be the closest Halloween to ‘Halloween’. Many would disagree, and that’s cool. With this series having taken so many proverbial “forks in the road”, so have the fans along with those films. I could type a diatribe (for the umteenmillionth time) on just why the Zombie chapters are horrible. But is it going to change how you feel about them? I doubt it.
But still, like another member has said, his two entries did not fail at all, financially.
To me theyre elseworlds and kinda cool to tell you the truth. If i was rob zombie i would have just made it middle class and not trailer trash. Not try to go the usual route of a poor kid abused by his step father and his mom is a stripper and his siblings mistreat him as well as bullied in school. Its truly cliché, thats one of the things i hated.
I would have kept it middle class like in the original and maybe have him start killing for no reason, kinda like the movie “we need to talk about kevin”, where someone from a normal family is already born with that “evil” inside him and starts killing for no apparent reason. Sometimes thats creepier than showing why and how and showing everything step by step and by the numbers. I would have preferred not having an “origin” at all but if you are going to show it inwould have preferred that way instead of how RZ did it. I did like how he went into explaining michaels obsession with masks, that was properly handled imo. The mask as well i have no problems with, especially the clean version at the beginning.
Everybody likes different stuff. I’m cool with that. But for ME, personally it did ruin the franchise just a little bit. Rob Zombie took everything I love about HalloweeN and just made it horrible. I liked how the town of Haddonfield looked like it could be anywhere in America. The Myers and Strodes were like normal, middle class families. Michael Myers was just a human being…crazy, but a human being. The unknowns and the why is he doing this, is part of what makes this movie so great and scary.
Rob apparently disagreed. Michael Myers had a bad childhood, his mom is a stripper and nobody looks like they take showers. I’m not sure what his obsession is with white trash, but jesus, he sure loves it. Michael grows to be some kind of giant looking wrestler with superhuman strength who seems to be able to smash cars and buildings with his bare hands. There are very few movies that actually make me angry. This one, however, is one of those few. Rob’s Halloween 2 is one that I can’t even really talk about. I have high blood pressure and don’t want to have a stroke.
Its like henry: portrait of a serial killer. Do we actually need a segment in the movie or a prequel on why he became a serial killer? No. Henry kills because he enjoys killing, its part of who he is. I appreciate RZ trying but in the end it wasnt necessary and nothing that he did in H1 or H2 has trickled down into “cannon”. In these series or even friday the 13th there are bits and pieces that each movie adds to the lore, some are brilliant and welcomed and become “official” part of the history of the character and others are ignored by the subsequent movies. Unfortunately for RZ nothing really stuck into the lore of Michael Myers.
That’s called cherry picking. I’m not sure why you think mentioning three concepts of something makes the movie bad, and I’m not sure exactly why you would think that “emos and rednecks” all by itself is some sort of slight against the movie as if there aren’t any Emos and rednecks in the world.
Were there some bad aspects of the two films? Of course there were. That doesn’t make the films bad all together. Again, cherry picking. If you want to talk flaws, you could make plenty of cases that the original Halloween was a bad movie, using the exact same rationale some of you are using to judge Rob’s films, and they would be just as fallacious.
This logic that suggests that just because something is different makes it terrible is absurd. But some of you guys can stick to your logical fallacies, that’s fine.
Maybe the name i gave this thread wasnt proper, RZ was going for his vision and popular or not at least he stuck to it and gave us a different take on a franchise that had gone stale. Theres just some things he could have done better or ask for another writer to take a stab at it. There was just so much potential in his movies, they could have been so much more but i guess we expect too much sometimes. At least we have a great mask to add to the collecting community.
You can laugh all you want but if you can’t see that these two films are vastly more distinctive than your average slasher film then you have absolutely no perception at all. A pretty good example of the type of person I’m talking about, thinking only with personal bias and not looking at things from a reasonable point of view.
Saying it’s just another killer movie is almost blatantly obtuse. Very few films of this kind are as inventive, stylish and especially complex in its filmmaking as Rob’s entries in the series.
You don’t have to like the story but for people not to see or understand that these films have quite a list of merits is pretty sad. It’s also even more sad that people can’t understand that every film has flaws and that by a lot of the haters’ rationales, the first film is not very good either. A lot of you guys just cherry-pick, as people tend to do. You don’t take pull picture into account, you just decide there are some things you don’t like so much that you become convinced they make the films altogether bad.
And again, they are vastly better than a lot of the films in the franchise. Get over it. And if the best attempt at a counterpoint you can make is two short and poorly reasoned sentences (simply the fact that a movie has rednecks in it makes it bad???) and a laugh smiley then I stand corrected.
Ugh… Get over it. Bottom line is it’s not for everyone…no matter what you say or think. You keep your opinions & I’ll keep mine. We’re not gonna change each other
The Zombie films are bad to me because he just couldn’t help himself…had to bring his derivative schtick he uses in every other film to Halloween, and it doesn’t fit. And of course throwing his wife in there (and of course as a stripper no less).
I love when people say deflective stuff like this. Especially since it is, frankly, a load of crap.
You’re wrong about opinions not changing. In fact, my opinion after watching it for the first time was the same as the rest of you. But after the second time I watched it, I reconsidered heavily and found that I really enjoyed the movie and appreciate it for all the things it did right.
If you’re going into it with the stubborn point of view that you will never change your opinion on something, not only will you never grow as a human being, but then why do you bother to even argue at all?
Opinions do change, all the time. Especially when you become privy to things you weren’t privy to before. Put it this way: if you never change your opinion on anything in your life, then you aren’t growing as a human and you aren’t learning anything in your life.
Frankly, it’s just a fact that a lot of people form opinions based on falsehoods and fallacies. Opinions can absolutely change. And they do. If you never change your opinion on anything in your life, then you aren’t learning anything.
If you immediately go into an argument convincing yourself you’ll never change your mind about anything, then not only are you close minded but you’re wasting your time by even offering the opinion at all. You’re basically talking just to hear yourself talk. What’s the point? The point of an argument is supposed to be to persuade.
I don’t even read your garbage anymore. Just checking in for the entertainment value at this point You seem to have issues with anyone not agreeing with you. Sorry bud. Not my style
