This is a good point here, a comparison would be…'bootlegs" are sold/traded by fans of bands all the time, MetallicA once said in the 1980’s that they loved the “bootlegs” due to giving the band more exposure and keeping the “hardcore” fans, interested and fans of the band. I use to own many bootleg LP’s of theirs and other bands and i see in these classified sections for bands that people still “trade” them to this day.

One thing I can’t seem to shake is the fact that the money made by Indie mask makers pales in HUGE comparison to the money they make on their mass produced masks. Why kill free marketing. Something just doesn’t add up to me. The whole rotten in Denmark thing ya know.

Just like it’s illegal to sell drugs on the street corner, it doesn’t make it okay if you change the drugs name, offer to just “trade” the drug, set up a private place to sell the drug, etc. Derek doesn’t make money from the classifieds but he profits, albeit small, from the advertisements on the forum. It’s been said but I do not think people get it - do not bring more attention to yourself. If you really want to make a stand and say “I will continue to make bootleg masks.” I can assure you that a legal C&D is on it’s way to you. I’d hate to see them make an example out of one stubborn mask maker because that could definitley happen. Everyone needs to chill. Yes, this stings and it sucks. Unfortunately, Trancas is doing nothing wrong no matter what you think, feel, etc. If you do not understand this, go research copy right law. If I were Derek I’d lock this thread up and any more threads like it and move on. It’s run it’s 15 page course and is continuing to bring attention to the site. Let’s move on.

I think the site has already drawn the negative attention it didnt need.Dren you dont like it either and I have known you to be opinionated about things.Just because a person has a different opinion than a senior member makes it no less important.People are upset and it will not hurt for them to speak there mind.Theres not a thing more that trancas could do…They have accomplished there goal.Just because bracket wants a thread locked doesnt mean derek should jump to do it.Derek realizes people are upset and would like a place to talk about it.Yes we know trancas has every right to do what they have done,but do we have to like it? Its over guys…We have to face it…Derek is doing all he can try and keep this place running…Removing the classified section was the best idea…No need to take the risk as it will only be abused with people trying to loop hole things…Trancas is being greedy IMO…Period…Yes they have the right to do so but to go through all this trouble to attack a private community and this side of the hobby is absurd…We have no one to blame but ourselves…Paying and charging extremely high prices for myers mask caught their attention…Years ago they didnt care because the market was no where near what it is today…But thats it and there is nothing you can do about it but to hit them where hurts…Merchandise…Just dont buy it…Lets face it the only people who buy Michael myers merch is Michael myers fans…Halloween isnt star wars and doesnt have the fanbase they do…Select people our into horror and the Halloween michael myers side…I for one will never give them another dime…That is all you can do…

I’m not defending the good ole Sheriff B. here. I’m saying people spouting off about Trancas sucking it and f*** Trancas, it’s only going to get us more attention we don’t need. Nor is it going to help us in any way. I’m all for opinions, but “Trancas can choke on it” isn’t an opinion, it’s the adolescent back talk of a kid who can’t do anything about what’s going on so they just curse someone.

head of nail meet hammer. Think about it, for years you could get a good mask for $200-300 and they left our community alone. Now we have masks going for absurd amounts $2,000+ it was only a matter of time before they pulled the plug

I said this earlier.When they see myers mask bringing in that kind of money, there not going to stand for it.These $2000 dollar mask draw ungodly attention to this site.
Yes, because the more money these artists charge for a mask that’s how much Trancas is losing out on. And I’m sure now all these guys with 1k+ masks are going to get on my case but it’s the truth. We drew this attention to ourselves.

I said this earlier well months ago really, a 2k recast is greed and like everything else in this country, greed has killed it. Its also not illegal to sell YOUR PERSONAL property period. If you didn’t make it you can sell it. Copyrighted or not (what that copyright entails is questionable) only violators are the producers of said mask.
As others have already stated, it was only a matter of time until this happened. I’m actually surprised it took them this long… And although they do have every right to do this to our community, it doesn’t make me like it one bit. It’s crap if you think about it.
I think we all should be allowed to voice our anger at this situation because quite honestly, and I think Derek knows this as well, they’ve already taken the backbone of this place, not much else they can do at this point. It’s pretty sickening.
Dren has a good point though, in that all these enormously expensive masks did nothing but make things worse, and got the attention of Trancas that much quicker. Not good at all.
All I do know is, and I mean this, I will never again go see another Halloween film, never again purchase another DVD, Blu-ray, poster, nothing. They can go to hell. They have no right to think that I’ll ever again spend my money on whatever crap they bring out. And that’s what it really is at the end of the day, crap.
We’ll survive. If this community is as strong as I believe it is, we’ll figure something out, believe me.

This seems to be a popular opinion of many of you. It shows no understanding of copyright guidelines at all. This is the same as saying “Wait officer, because I didn’t make the crack cocain, I can sell it. Go after the maker, not the dealer!”
But if this entire ordeal were really just about copyrights, then why are they acting now? Why not 2 or 3 years ago, or when H:Resurrection came out? It’s a combination of factors, one of ‘em being extremely expensive masks like Darb pointed out. The copyright owners probably saw the ridiculous sums of money other people were making with “bootleg” material, so they decided to finally step in, guns a blazin’.
Well, it’s really just a progression of events. The end of the world is coming on December, 2012. The bible said there would be a progression of things leading up to it. Because when Halloween Resurrection came out this place was hardly known. I wasn’t even here so I don’t know the full history of what this place was like then. But I do know that in the near four years I’ve been here this place has grown enormously. And these ridiculously priced masks of 1k and higher have been a contributing factor.
I have sent Derek a PM about making this place into more of a general horror forum. We would keep the name of http://www.michael-myers.net (because that would still draw the attention we need to stay busy as a forum) but change around the appearance of the site, like replacing the strictly Myers icons at the top with multiple horror slashers and icons and also do away with the Psycho picture (sorry deano) at the top left. At least maybe that way we would not be cast as the Myers site and we could get our classifieds back so we can still sell our other, non-Myers pieces. I have non-Myers masks I want to sell pronto and I’ll be damned if I’m not allowed to at least do that.
