Looking at the original Halloween as a stand alone horror film, what would you like to see in a remake that is done properly? This is something i have thought about for the last year, and my brother (who is a Michael Myers fan like myself) cant seem to grasp the concept of remaking JUST the 1978 film for what it was. I would love to hear what you guys think.
I think the only reason to remake the film would be to enhance aspects the original touched upon. I’d play up the atmospheric fall shots of the Haddonfeld suburb, the mundanity and plainness of Laurie’s life, along with her insecurity and sexual repression. There are plenty of film making and story telling techniques these days that create more realism. When I watch Halloween (1978), I’m very aware I’m watching a film. The acting is terrible and the score (as iconic as it is) is often intrusive. Realism is what I’d crave in a '78 remake.
No!
Yeah I don’t know if it could really be done. That’s like trying to remake JAWS. I can’t really explain it, but those kinds of films have a certain feel to them that I have not seen replicated in modern movies.
