Does anyone know for certain what the colors were on the 1978 Sheriff’s patch? I know that’s an obscure fact. I’ve been working on a makeshift sheriff’s jacket. Since they didn’t create new patches from scratch, I assumed they were modified LEO patches.
So I found a number of patches from Virginia that match up very close. Even the odd curve if the word County matches. However the color is brown and yellow. On the other hand, if you give the picture a blue wash, it looks very close. Certainly good enough for my project. Thoughts?

Looks great! A lot of those kinds of patches come from a large company as “blanks” to have the county/city name stitched in by a local business (if you don’t get them custom-made in the first place).
This and the HMH jacket would be badass as hell to have.

I purchased a Horace Small Tuffy Jac jacket. They pop up periodically on ebay. They have buttons instead of snaps over there zipper, but otherwise a good match.
However, I also just picked up a Los Angeles County Sheriff jacket which is even closer to the original, which I believe was a Blauer.
