New to the forum and have a question. I bought the 2006 don post myers mask and I love it. The latex mask itself looks good and fits me well. My problem is the hair. It is long, brown, and dreadlocky. It also is falling out in dreadlock size pieces, my myers mask now looks like a creepy old mans thinning hair. Does anyone know of a way to fix this or put on new hair? I have 90% of the hair that fell out, should i reglue it back on? How do i get the dreadlocks out and make it more myersy? Should i just remove all the hair and re glue it on? Thanks for any help as I really like this mask but dont wanna go out on halloween looking like a hippie michael myers!
First off, Don Post masks are usually awful, the 2006 is usually the best of the Don Post lot, has the thickest latex too. The hair on all Don Post masks are trash, the 2006 tho I had the least hair problems with, mine had the hair nearly slicked back and spray painted. The dreadlock hair is something common on all Don Post Myers masks usually. Comb the hair back (if possible) and hair spray the hell out of it. Super or hot glue the hair that fell out back into place. But honestly man, just go buy a Trick or Treats Studios Mask for 54$. They’ve got a H2, H3 set, H6, H20, and Halloween Ressurection masks, and they are quality without the hair problem. Don Post, Rubies, Paper Magic, and Fun World all make god awful generic pieces of trash.
thanks for the advice! I really like the actual mold and latex mask for this tho, bought it off ebay from a guy who painted the face to look well and it fits me perfect, so the mask itself is awesome. But like you said the hair is trash. Do you think i just just take what little hair is left on the head and remove it and buy some time of wig that matches the hair thats on there and just reglue a full head of hair on?
How much percentage would you say of the hair has fallen out? If over 35% I’d say scrap it all, remove the hair, and try a re-glue if possible, if not, you can buy synthetic hair on eBay or Amazon, a lot of Mask companies use Camel hair on their masks, which they also sell on eBay and Amazon, If your going to attempt a re-glue I would go with Camel hair. A wig is a waste of time. You would ruin the mask with the amount of glue required to keep the wig in place. If you’re unsure of doing it yourself and you’re willing to pay a little extra put up a post in the Mask forum and ask about having it re-haired. There’s dozens of studio FX guys on this site.
ya i need it by halloween so sending it anywhere or ordering offline wont work. And for the wig, i wouldnt glue the wig onto the mask i would remove all current hair on there and reglue hair line then fill it in with pieces of the other wig, kind of to just fill in the bald spots/.
Sounds like you solved your own problem then. Hairs not gonna look right tho, 2 completely different types of hair unless you get a wig with the same hair.
ugh. why couldnt the hair just stay on. idk what im going to do. might just take off all the hair on the wig that i have and just try and reglue it all on it a way where they bald spots arent as obvious.
I just saw this post or I would have helped ya earlier. Its no big deal, you have some choices here.
go to walmart and buy tacky glue gel reapply the hair from the underside push it on with a paintbrush, blow dry each section you do for faster results.
If there is not enough hair there to begin with, go to any shop( wal-mart halloween spirit anyplace) and buy the hair anyway, if not the same color just get a mask to snatch the hair off of, it could be a werewolf, myers anything the same color, you probably dont do airbrush I’m guessing so get fawn spray paint.
wet the hair with a spray water bottle first, pet it like you would a dog , all the excess will come off. Then hair spray it, pet it again, wash your hands then reapply the hair spray, that should fix ya dude.
When i get home I will post a picture of the back of the head of the mask, and you can let me know if i need more hair or can just rearrange current hair. thanks a ton man
