HEY GUYS I’VE BEEN THINKING AND WONDERING ABOUT THE HAIR ON THE HERO FROM THE ORIGINAL 78 HALLOWEEN UP TO 81 IN H2.
THICK OR THIN? PUFFY OR MATTED? DARK BROWN /RED? DARK BROWN BLACK?
I’VE BEEN TALKING WITH SOME PEOPLE ABOUT THE WHOLE SUBJECT AND OBVIOUSLY PEOPLE HAVE A DIFFERENT VIEW UPON THE SUBJECT AND I WOULD LIKE TO GATHER A VAST AMOUNT OF OPINIONS AND FEELINGS ON WHAT YOU THINK LOOKS BEST FOR THE ACCURACY?
**MY PERSONAL PREFERENCE AND WHAT I THINK LOOKS BEST FOR THE MOST H1 H2 AUTHENTICITY IS THIN MATTED DOWN NAPPY HAIR. I JUST DON’T GET PEOPLE WHO DO MYERS WITH TONS OF TONS OF HAIR LONG AND BIG AFROS? AFTER LOOKING @ SHOTS OF 75 KIRKS AND SCREEN-CAPS AND BACKSTAGE PHOTOS, TO ME IT SEEMS THE HAIR IS VERY VERY THIN AND MATTED AND TO THE EYE LOOKS BIG BECAUSE OF SHADOWS AND IT BEING PUFFED GIVE IT THAT THICK LOOK IMO I BELIEVE THAT THE REAL HERO MUST HAVE BEE JUST LITERALLY POOFED UP IN THE FRONT AND SIDES LEAVING THAT THERE WOULD BE SOME BALD SPOTS ON THE MASKS.
For me, Ive always thought that the hair was dark brown, nice and thin, and really matted on top with some stragglers out the sides…I find that the H4 cover mask really shows the matted hair. I know its not the hero, but for me, its very close. I do agree, that too much hair is often used on alot of masks, but then it gives you some room to play if you’re going to trim it or alter it yourself!
I have a NAG/AHG retool that has thin dark brown hair (alittle bit of a red colour as well), nice and matted on top, and its my most screen acurate mask that i have.
I owned a DP mask that had the same 75 Kirk hair. I assume seeing as it used the same hair and was from the same era that the way it was haired would probably be about the same as a kirk would have been haired. I can tell you that the majority of the hair was in the front of the head and got thinner closer to the back of the head. The hair matted VERY easily and developed long locks as it was matted. The hair itself was more like human hair than any hair i’ve used before… Camel, Mohair, Alpaca, Flax, Superhair, none have the same texture or staple as this hair. The superhair I use is the closest as far as the matting and frizz characteristic goes and that’s why I’ve switched over to it completely. And I can mimic the locks but the original hair just did it naturally. Here’s a pic of the mask I had which I have since sold to a very lucky individual…

But IMO it’s thinner in the back, fuller in the front and matted for sure.
yeap i never got the big poofy hair/camel hair…
the kirks were haired very thin and you could actually see the head through the hair
mohair is the closest to kirk hair!
there are tons of different types of it though…and you can end up with the wrong type if you don know where to get it.
The mad doc i have has enough kirk hair to do atleast 7 myers!
Its very large and has tons of hair! to bad I am a sucker for this mask and to bad its in mint shape
my old wolfman and werewolf, chewbacca, mad scientist and many more i had all sported the kirk hair.
there really isn’t anything better

I TALKED TO DICK BACK AT WEEKEND OF HORRORS AND ASKED HIM ABOUT THE HAIR ON THE MASK AND HE SAID HE DIDNT REALLY KNOW WHAT KIND OF HAIR THEY USED ON IT BUT IT WAS DEFINATELY LIKE A MEDIUM BROWN, ALMOST DARK BROWN
Good subject Jimmy-Boy! For accuracy I have to lean towards the misted/sprayed hair as TLW spoke of several times. I prefer thinner layed hair but I give my customers what they want. I have about 10-12 fibers and styles that I can now do to the Myers masks. To sum it up for me, I like the hair to be matted and THIN and you all know that is what I do to my own Myers that I keep. I’m pretty sure from talking with several people that have had Kirks that they were haired thiner in back and thinner in general that most of us believe. The shot where Michael is standing outside of the closet (profile shot looking down) appears to have lots of hair in back! I believe that this is just the way that it was flipped up and was indeed fairly thin on the far side of the flip up. Blah, blah, blah
Here’s an ooooooooooold Mint I did up with very thin hair and poofed it up a bit. But it had thin spots all aound and looked so vintage. I miss this one and I am trying to get it back. BTW, the Mint 75 Kirk still makes my favorite conversion! Here’s a very few that I have done.

I AGREE WITH KEEPIN THE HAIR VERY THIN AND VERY TWISTED AND NAPPY BUT JUST ENOUGH TO GET THAT AS I SAY TO MY HUNNY WHEN SHES GOT HERE HAIR THAT WAY “KIRK PUFF” IN THE FRONT OF THE MASK. AS FOR THE BACK DEFINATELY THINNED OUT AND PUFFED OUT TO MAKE IT LOOK LIKE THERES MORE HAIR THAN THEIR REALLY IS.

I did not know about the thin hair on the Kirks/Myers. It always looked thick!! This is why I love this site. Little things like this, make this hobby fun and interesting!!
I guess where I get my theory about the thinner hair is when I look at all the pics of the Kirks in the gallery, especially Darrens. Here’s an H2 I did with my vision of the perfect H2 hair, MY vision
Of course it’s not the name of the hair. This place is all about secrets of artists techniques right? Why would I openly divulge what I use? I went though more than 25 different types of hair trying to find the one I thought was the closest to the hero hair. Thats at least a couple hundred dollars of my money, my time and my trial and error. Why should I give it away for free? Why is every artist here or anywhere hesistant to discuss their personal technique that isn’t already considered common knowledge?
When I first came to these boards like 5 years I thought it was a community where I could learn from members and i did learn a few things. But I have also had the door slammed in my face more often than not. Do I blame them for not sharing? No. Does it frustrate me that they don’t? Of course but it’s just the way the world works.
It’s absolutely nothing personal against anyone. It’s just how it is.
