lately i’ve gotten back the myers bug, this year I hope I’ll have a mask before this coming halloween. yearly stalking around town trying to scare people on halloween dressed as the shape is just an awesome way to celebrate the holiday, as i’m sure many of you agree. Now there’s lots of great replicas from artists out there that give us the community a very grateful amount of options. I just feel like I have something to say about a certain two that really do something special for me. The lunatic and the maniac from nightowl productions. I think these masks really set themselves apart from most h1 and h2 replicas out there that are mainly sought after by the community, which strive for hero accuracy in regards to sculpt and finishing. Now i wouldn’t say these two masks aren’t accurate, but they also achieve something more than that. For these sculptures, Justin took the concept of the hero mask, specifically the way it appeared in certain shots, and he represented that exaggeration of evil into the face. And it’s done beautifully. These masks are gorgeously frightening. i think they have become iconic in their own right because of their distinct looks. I really can’t praise Justin’s work enough for how much it contributed to the mask hobby, and in regards to hero accuracy I don’t think the shat or the nmm78 have even been topped. pics:
and do you all think it would be a good option to get either one of the tots versions and get it converted to look like an original? because i realize the likelihood of finding either one of these before halloween isn’t too great unfortunately. also if any of you has either of these masks feel free to post them up
I agree man I’ve always wanted a small lunatic the tots one are way to big!! Beautiful photos of them as well. Love it.
hey thanks man. and did you get the tots h2 small version? because i believe they came out with one. but yeah thats what sucks about the mass produced ones, the paint and hair can be fixed but the bad eyecuts and bloated features are basically unfixable
I’d love to see the H4 poster and H2 by TOTS done like the original masks, the Maniac is my favourite of the 2 honestly
Both of these masks are great, Years back i owned a couple Lunatics at different times. Now I only have a NO Manaic I’d really like to grab another Lunatic to complete the set.
woah, stellar copy you got my man. it screams evil. i appreciate you sharing. i’d really like to get either one of them eventually. both are great masks but i am a little partial to the early lunatics
The Lunatic has long been one of my favorite masks ever. I owned two once upon a time. One was H2 and I had Justin do the other one H1 style so it was really unique. I do miss those masks. And if I remember correctly, Puckface owned what I consider to be the best Lunatic Justin ever did. Not sure if he still does.
geesh if only i could back 10 or so years when these masks were still thriving in the indie myers mask community. these sculpts have always stood out, and still hold up so amazingly well. i wonder where they’re all at and if the owners of them are still frequent members of this site.https://forum.michael-myers.net/t/lunatics/39029/1 this thread i was checking out has some great shots members have shared as well has puckface’s old copy
That first one certainly captures Warlock’s H2 look well! Not sure about the other one, it’s cool it reminds me of the Halloween book back cover or the H4 poster, definitely looks great, but the Castle 75k, PS78 and the 98 proto to me nail that 78 look almost perfectly. All of them are nicer than any H1’s I have owned! I wish I had any of these lol thanks for sharing man
my pleasure, and yeah i believe the maniac is supposed to resemble the h4 poster shot. i think the manaic and the lunatic just captures the spirit of myers in h2 and the h4poster in an intensified way. thats partly why i appreciate them so much because these sculpts take an artistic liberty approach, but still feeling accurate. no doubt those masks you mentioned are realistically more accurate to the hero. in some way, accurate replicas of h1 and h2 masks in this hobby have started to feel more dime a dozen to me
Very true! I appreciate the work that goes into each one they are truly works of art and are amazing for sure.
The Maniac was a seriously wicked mask with a seriously wicked sculpt.
Little late but I got back into the hobby this year and the Maniac has always been my favorite. I redid a TOTS H4 Poster mask to look similar to one, I’m just a beginner with mask rehauls but i think it turned out pretty well and the sculpt definitely has the Maniac features. Definitely worth the $60 if you want a Maniac replica:
