I just caught this on Ebay and thought I would share, This could be the Best Don Post 1982 H3 Pumpkin in Existence. But is it worth its weight in gold …Maybe !
Nice, but I couldn’t pay that for one, especially in that condition. I’d have to have it without paint loss for that sort of money.
Im just wondering what the reserve is on that Beast
JD
Yeah I saw that, it’s been in my watch list, but that reserve seems awful high. It is a beauty though.
It is far, far from the best PH around. Most I know of do not have anywhere near that much paint damage. No way in hell it was kept in a bag since the early 80s or it would look brand new. I also do not think the evil tag is original but the seller doesn’t clarify. Still, a very rare mask. I expect it to go for around $1,500 unless a couple of guys fight over it and raise the price.
Thats the best looking one I think I have ever come across, especially if that tag’s authentic … looks pretty good to me.
your right, $1500 or more unless his reserves around the price of that 75 Kirk that’s normally on Ebay
JD
Very nice indeed, not sure I’d go up that high though.
$1,825.00 (plus $7 shipping).
I think I know who got it, but I won’t out him unless he wants to be out. That was a fun one to watch.
Nice one to watch indeed, I think I might know who your referring to…anybody know what the weight is on a 82 pumpkin ?
Considering the damage that’s about 800.00 more than I would have paid but still a very nice mask.
Flamming heck ,the $7 shipping aint too bad though
I can’t believe I have to explain myself. $1825.00 plus $7 shipping. (The seller lives 2 hours from me!)
Let’s just look at the dollar amount first, not even paying attention to the condition or the providence of the mask. The last 2 original Pumpkinheads sold for over $2,000 each, one even going for more than $3,000 I believe. I sat down last night and figured that there are 12 total Pumpkinheads in existence (That have been brought public), including the ones with the shamrocks on the side: 5 with the shamrock and 7 without. On a mass-produced mask that they made more than 1,000 plus copies of (around 1,000, witches, 1,000 skulls…3,000 total sets!), the odds of finding one is dismal and “if” one just happens to pop up, they go for chunks of change; doesn’t matter the condition.
Condition. Yup, the mask has original paint chipping issues. These masks were painted a very old fashioned way: they used dayglow pigments for the Green Witch and the Pumpkinhead masks. The orange was called Blaze Orange. It was powdered, and they mixed the powder into rubber cement and thinned it with naphtha to spray it through the airbrushes. The paint is simi-transparent, so painting the mask with a white base coat first makes the colors pop a little better. Now, for health reasons, no one shoots rubber cement with naphtha from an airbrush these days, that process is out dated. The process is extremely harmful to the lungs and nervous system. A lot of what DPS was doing in the 70’s and 80’s, was the first time trying these things. Years later, they have found out, the powder pigment, along with the rubber cement, loosens due to pulling, stress, temperature and causes the chipping problems. I had this happen on one of my original Green Witches and also my original Pumpkinhead before I had it repainted by Rob Tharp. (I had about 5 original Green Witches at one time, this makes my 3rd original Pumpkinhead.)
Providence. The mask came from her teacher who got it from Dan O’Herlihy during an interview with him back in 1982…Connel Cochran himself! Now, alone with that, I feel the mask is worth it. Sure, it would have been great if it was autographed but I plan on getting the story notarized. So, if someone went to all that…thought and lied this story up, wow. The Silver Shamrock Medillion is the original DPS issued paper tag. So, it’s a tagged 1982 Pumpkinhead, which…if found in a prop box somewhere, would look like this.
Now, why did I buy it?! I originally was not going to purchase it, I had zero interest in it. I just got 2 Pumpkinhead recasts painted up by Rob and people are honestly confusing them from originals. If you are lucky enough to own an original, you know the size on these makes the recasts look small. I can go into the process of why the recasts are small, but that is another topic. Yesterday, I was dusting my collection and had a really good look at my original 1982 foamed Pumpkinhead. About 2 years ago I noticed the mask was hardening (dry rotting) around the base and especially where the care tag originally hung. That part is extremely hard and is no longer attached to the foam. Once dry rot starts, you really can’t stop it. It’s absolutely my favorite mask in my collection and it’s dying in front of me. Very disheartening. I made the decision with 1 hour left before the auctions end, if the mask can stay below $2,500, I’ll bid on it…at the very last second. It did, I bid and I won. I have no regrets for winning the auction. If I want the mask re-painted, I can have the gentleman who developed the actual paint design, paint it and match the original. How cool is that!
Original 1982 Pumpkinhead, Proto 2012 Green Witch and Proto 2012 White Skull
Halloween III, along with Halloween and The Fog are my favorite movies. There isn’t much original Halloween III pieces out there and given the opportunity, noticing the condition of my original…fate took over.
Original 1982 Pumpkinhead, foamed and dry rotting around it’s base.
Look closely, you can see the hole where the plastc care tage hung.
It’s all in the size! Recast on the left, original on the right. Original dwarfs the recast!
Congrats on scoring a piece of history there Billy!
Helluva score billy, huge congrats bro!!
Thank you guys, I appreciate it. I got lucky, a friend of mine picked up a black hooded Hagatha about a week back and would have really taken me out, but fate intertwined again. He did bid on this but if it wasn’t for the Hagatha, would have beat me out in the end because he said he would have gone all the way to the end. I never thought I could have found an original Pumpkinhead…let alone 3 in my life time. I consider myself very lucky and fortunate. I need to start going to church…
Congratulations Billy, I’d love to own an original set. The Pumpkinhead being the one that would be the crowning achievement to the trio.
Congrats Billy, no need to explain yourself at all. I think everyone here knows how much of a H3 fan you are. And believe me if I had the cash I would have been in this myself. I too am a huge H3 fan, you bought one of my H3 signs I made. I new when I seen the Shamrock Chip, this was a great piece, bad paint or not.

Congratulations, Billy. I know many of us would love to own an original set. I’d like to see an original pumpkinhead & witch in the flesh some day.
Billy, I still remember the day I bought your old original Pumpkinhead repainted by Tharp for $350. Man, how times have changed!
Congrats on your score… I was so tempted, but couldn’t pull the trigger at the moment.
Congrats Billy. I was going to bid but changed my mind. Your collection is tremendous and thanks for the information you provide each time.
