SALEM, Ore. – Students at the Oregon School for the Deaf are waking up to brand new dorm rooms and a renovated haunted house, which is used as the school’s primary fundraiser.
It’s all thanks to ABC’s Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. The crew revealed its work Monday night.
Hundreds of the show’s fans lined the fence outside the school. Some dressed in costumes, hoping to make an appearance on the Halloween-themed episode.
Meanwhile, crews finished building the “Nightmare Factory” before host Ty Pennington made his debut.
Famous horror movie director Rob Zombie, whose films include “House of 1,000 Corpses” and “The Devil’s Rejects”, took a special interest in this project to do his best to make the “Nightmare Factory” just that.
“It’s absolutely amazing to be able to help the school with something like this. Usually what I do does not come into play, so to be asked to come do something to work on a haunted house and make it as scary and crazy as I could to help the school was awesome. It was a rare opportunity to put some evil to good use,” said Rob Zombie.
More than 200 people bought VIP tickets to be the first to get a sneak peak at the haunted house.
“Wow! Oh, it was the best. I look back, wow. So much technology, everything involved, it was really scary and I loved it,” said Jordan Johanson.
“My experience going through the haunted house was frightening. It was so scary. Probably one of the scariest haunted houses I’ve ever been through,” said Abby Turver, volunteer interpreter.
“I think what they’re liking best is it’s so detailed. They seemed blown away when they went through, how detailed the sets were and the fact the walls and the characters were all animatronic and just flying off the walls everywhere. It’s pretty amazing,” Zombie said.
The tickets sold for the haunted house preview generated more than $12,000. Volunteers say the money is going to a great cause.
More than $100,000 worth of labor and materials went into renovating the basement in an effort to make this year’s haunted house the best yet.
General admission tickets to the “Nightmare Factory” cost $10. No opening date has been set yet.
I’m guessing a near Halloween air date for this episode. Hopefully it does not air at the same time AMC’s “The Walking Dead”
Cant wait for Mr.Z to make another Movie!
