So I thought it would be a decent idea to buy an airbrush to paint the base layers of a mask. Nothing more, as dry brushing is just very tedious and probably gets the same result; am I right here? Would I apply a primer to the mask to help it stick better?

An airbrush can be a useful addition to your tools, but it requires practice and maintenance. Make sure to keep it clean.
