What type(s) of airbrush is everyone using to paint the masks?
I have an Iwata Eclipse HP-CS I’ve been using for painting plastic models. It comes with a .35mm needle but I also have a .5mm needle for it. I keep reading that the Paasche H is best but does anyone use an internal mix airbrush to paint masks?
I use a paasche single action. The rubber based mask paint is a nightmare for airbrushes, so the less moving parts on your airbrush is better. The H has been my go-to for years.
I use an Iwata dual action just because I’m used to it, but I agree with FineArts… a single action would be less hassle as far as maintenance for this type of painting. A dual action would give you a little more freedom if you were going to be airbrushing your shadows and weathering, that’s about it.
If you’re painting H1/2 masks, the only airbrushed paint you really need is a wide spraying flesh and white. This works well for base coats and emulates the wide circumference of spray paint.
I’m going to try the latex mask paint from Monster Makers. I was going to get white, black, medium flesh, gray and brown. I’m painting an H1 but want to dirty it up a bit. I’ll either mix in some black or gray with the white to tone it down a bit. Sometimes when I’ve tried mixing black in with white it turns blue-ish. The gray might work better.
I just used a Paashe H this weekend for my 1st airbrush use ever on a Tots H1 overhaul… Using a indoor/outdoor flat white latex paint with windshield washer fluid as a thinner… Gotta work quick as paint definitely gums up and dries quickly. Then ya gotta be pretty diligent about cleaning everything quick too. having fun with it! the re-hair is def fun too
