Alternatives for Streaks n Tips for TOTS Kirk conversion

Hey all, I’m beginning the process of converting a tots Kirk into an H1 mask the same way they did in 1978, with just some spray paint and scissors. Does anyone have any recommendations on what product to use for the hair? I’ve heard they used Streaks ‘N Tips but unfortunately I can’t get any in the time I need to have it by. Would simple spray paint work?

The spray paint wont last long on your mask. It will crack and damage the mask.

Spray painting a mask can cause the latex to rot faster. You won’t see a problem right away, but the solvents and propellants in spray paint aren’t good for rubber in the long run.

That said, plenty of people have done spray paint kirk conversions before. If you apply the paint in a thin layer, then you can reduce the risk of the paint cracking and flaking off. I don’t recommend using spray paint, but it’s your mask.

I’ve used spray paint on hair without any issues. You just don’t want to apply too much at once.

Alternatively, you can also use acrylic black paint, put a little bit of water so it’s a little drippy (but not too much, it needs to be dense) and brush it onto the hair using a brush, that’s what I did for my boogeyman.
It takes more time but with enough passes of paint it will look good, the best thing about it is that you can really control how darker you want the hair to be, or if you want to leave patches without paint (pretty much like the H1 masks in certain photos), you are very precise this way.

Fw ink black

I’d say get one of those aerosol hair color sprays that come out this time of year. I can’t imagine they’re all that different from Streaks N Tips.

As for spray painting, you may want to get an airbrush or find a latex-based spray paint at a craft store. Of course, it’s up to you.

I used L’Oréal root touch up spray that I got at the local pharmacy on mine. Worked great.

Great to know. My creep hair needs a bit of a touch up.
