You know it will be. Some of the comments are a little crazy tho IMO.
I agree with the reviewer, my biggest grip on the video side was the White specks, dark pocks, tiny burns, split-second squiggles, faint horizontal blue splotches and other minor nicks and scratches that pepper the original print material. They should have done a frame by frame restoration, verses an up sample from the 480P master. But as soon as I posted this earlier, I was told I was moron, in spite of the fact that I wrote Audio and Video reviews for a number of magazines for years and own the best television ever made, the Pioneer Elite Signature Series.
Also, I was stunned that they didn’t put an uncompressed version of the audio on the disc. To me, that is the best feature of Blu Ray. The two channel DTS is good, but it’s compress. You would think with Blu Ray, an uncompressed version of the sound track is a no brainier given that you are trying to convince people to upgrade from the DVD release.
The white specks were what almost killed it for me - at the beginning of the film they were pretty much distracting. Granted, I only have some Insignia 720p (?) HDTV but it certainly displays H1 & several other films with a clarity I’d not experienced before. As an “aspiring audiophile” I can certainly agree with some aspects the reviewer mentioned about the audio…at least the option of an uncompressed would have been nice. But I will say this - I’ve seen H2 many more times than I’ve seen H1 (which is saying a great deal) but last night was the first time I could honestly say without question that the kid talking to the deputy said “Bennett Tramer.” Sure I always knew that was his name, but I wasn’t totally convinced it wasn’t my mind making me think I heard it until the BR release. And on the Tramer note - I could REALLY see the tones of his mask that I’ve heard many say were there. It’s true: my eyes are terrible & my ears are even worse - but the transfer was good enough to have me already itching to watch it again. But, that’s not what’s on the agenda for today. Work, work, work (I’m such a dull boy.) Thanks for sharing this with us, Chris
I personally prefer the two channel track which is pretty good, but an uncompressed 5.1 DTS track would have been awesome!
And clearly, it’s the best H2 has ever looked, by a proper restoration to an old print is what I would of expected as a fan.
I have a Pioneer elite TV also. The white specs are kind of annoying but it’s like being in the movie theater in 1982 Not suprising Universal went El cheapo on this title all around. Bonus features suck balls as well. I guess they just threw the cheapest product out there they could so they could get rid of everyone asking why isn’t H2 on Blu Ray. The distribution model horrible as well even in a major city you have to go out of your way to find someone who actually stocks the movie.
Yeah Chris, Universal dropped the ball. Although this is the best we’re going to get of Halloween II, they could have done so much more, but honestly, Universal has a track record of not really caring for it’s back catalog.
Perhaps it has to do with the Universal libraries that caught on fire in 2008 (I think that’s when it happened…) They had a warehouse fire that destroyed a lot of their of their stuff.
I enjoyed the DTS 5.1 mix, it was a little on the bass-y side, but yes, and uncompressed option would have been good, but perhaps they ran out of room by including the Terror in the Aisles feature as well??
The screen shots look incredible. It still blows my mind that that is the same mask that was used in H1…it’s looks wicked!
Thanks for sharing the link. I’ll have to pick up a copy of the Blu Ray soon and check it out.
