So I reworked the weathering and made it not as subtle, and more fleshtones, darkened the hair a little more and styled it a bit more
before i re-weathered him.
I think its a nice mask and I love the feel of the hair, the mohair is beautiful. Would some honest constructive criticism kill someone I know its not a NAG/AHG, or A JC but hell at least I try and give it my all.
I think you are very dedicated in trying to learn this skill. I’ll suggest a few things.
Number 1) The paint does not have to be layered really thick. I use a very thin coat of white applied by an airbrush. Then, I use a plastic cup filled with water. I squirt some brown acrylic paint in with the water. I stir it until completely dissolved. I place my mask on a stand inside of a big plastic tote. Then, I pour the watered down paint over the top of the mask. Remove the mask from the tote and set it in front of a fan to dry. Then, I pour the mixture back into the cup. I do this over and over until I get the shade I want. This is a ‘wash’ This achieves the darkening of the lips and other lower areas of the mask. I also do black paint. Then, on the areas that need to be darker, I use charcoal that is ground up. I use a paint brush to apply it inside the upper eyebrow area and under the nose. You can use a Q tip also. This way you do not have to cake on the paint so much. Then, I use a light dusting of Krylon matte clear coat. This is to prevent the layers of weathering from flaking and rubbing off.
Number 2) The hair. Thin the hair out and apply in layers. Less is more, sometimes.
Hope this helps. The only thing taking away from your masks is the smeared effect the weathering portrays. THe weathering should not look like it has been airbrushed. As far as I know, very few mask makers use an airbrush for detailing on a myers mask!
PM me if you have any questions man! Keep trying, you will eventually develop your own style and realize your dream mask!
Huh? Not to take away from crackbaby’s work, but I’ve seen numerous masks with the neck puncture. I actually own one myself. My retool H78 has it as part of the sculpt. Just a heads up.
