Honestly, with a good overhaul, you can’t beat the TOTS IF it fits. Has anyone tried removing the hair and cutting the slit higher, then using cheesecloth and liquid latex to essentially broaden the mask under where the hair attaches? Just curious as the mask fits me fine. I’ve had 3 pass through my hands and they all fit a little different, some larger than others.
Exactly my issue man. A larger mask you have no issue padding or making adjustments to fit. If it’s too tight you are just out of luck and unfortunately that’s exactly the case with the H40. I’m hoping they make a larger sculpt and understand they own the licensing rights but if they don’t release a larger version soon I will turn the other cheek if an indy version becomes available in 25’
Movie mold or not, I am not buying ToTS’ mask. Chris can kiss my cheeks; I want a mask made of quality latex, fits my head, and is finished to my liking. And frankly, I’d rather pay $300 for something that is damn close to the movie (which we’ve seen and know is possible) and has the finishing I want right out of the gate. Sorry, not sorry.
If there’s any “blame” to go around for indie mask makers creating their own H40s, it’s all Chris Zephro’s. As has been pointed out in this thread and numerous others (and often by me), there was no excuse to not produce a larger mask that could easily be padded instead of a mask that’s probably the size of the average male head, which is 22.44 inches. For a comfortable mask, it should be bigger than the size of the wearer’s head. Despite the fact that I pre-ordered and got my mask late and the crappy customer service, I’d have bought two H40s from TOTS if the size was right. My feeling is that Zephro knew the mask was too small for most people but kept it that size (outside of the variations here and there) to get people to double-dip for a larger mask. I wouldn’t be at all surprised to learn this POS second version is bigger than the original.
I too will jump at the chance to get an accurate mask from an indie mask maker. I have no loyalty to TOTS after the way they’ve treated me as a customer. I’d rather spend more money on a quality product AND quality customer service experience than get a mass-produced version of both.
