Are good ground up sculpts still special?

I am working on a ground up sculpt right now.

Hope it comes out good. And can get everybody a reasonably priced Kirk looking mask.

Great news Colin. Best of luck man! Just another of example of a ground up mask. ( not one of mine) Gotta go with what works for you. This sculpt ( and JC conversion) does it for me 110% It’s absolutely what I see on the screen:jack_o_lantern:

I agree. I’ve been on the boards since 2013, and even then, it was walking on eggshells with all the elitism. Despite that, I voiced my opinion, and if it was unpopular, it never bothered me.

At the end of the day, it’s simply masks. With all the horrific things that are going on in the world, today, in the grand scheme of things, it’s not that significant. However, this is escapism for many of us, from all of that. I collect for me, which brings immense pleasure.

I think sharing opinions and debating can be fun and healthy, as long as it doesn’t go past that, people love to bring personal character flaws or family attacks into it, and that’s the only problem, not everybody is as level headed or calm or confident enough to handle those conversations.

I know a lot of people have disliked the new layout and a lot of senior members seem to have vanished but one definite improvement is the less ā€œtoxicā€ atmosphere. There seems to be a lot more room for debate and a generally more friendly atmosphere. Just my 2 cents :clinking_beer_mugs:

I was actually thinking about making a forum posts along the lines of this. Like people have stated on here they do use ground up sculpts that are sought after, I’ve yet to meet anybody on here who DOESNT want a mask like the ID (would like to know why he stopped making them a very silly thing to do to stop production) but most people myself included want a mask that WE KNOW is going to have the same exact details as the hero mask. I think most people forget this hobby isn’t cheap at all and the way I think about it is why pay for an expensive mask that’s a ground up when you could pay the same or a little more in price for a mask like the 98 proto or a Sean Clark mask that has almost the same if not exact details as the hero mask. I also want to state this too I feel like this hobby has way too many masks that people INCLUDNG NAG for example create all of these different sculpts for what purpose? Just create a mask that is identical to the hero there’s certain masks that I don’t think make any sense for existing such as the Castro mask or the Ultimate Cover I’m not trying to hate I just genuinely wonder why there’s a dozen different masks, you know I still can’t tell a 75k castle from a Ultimate nightmare.

There are certain looks of the hero mask that some will never pull off, the SC75 that NAG even sells is just a replica, but the majority of his masks all derive from the 98 proto, just with a stretch or odd pull. A lot of other sculpts such as Justins Closet Monster were more a look to the mask, but artistic, his most artistic was the Butcher mask, it had no accuracy, yet is still terrifying

The ultimate cover is such a great sculpt though! I would take it over the nightmare or 75k any day but I love cover masks. Personally not a huge fan of the nightmare unless its stuffed really well

The cover is a nice mask and it definitely captures well, the Halloween 4 poster mask. I actually don’t know the lore behind that if they just found an old photo of the original mask and slapped it on there or it was just artwork someone created and that mask doesn’t exist, if that makes sense. But in the terms I was speaking of, it isn’t necessarily Halloween 1 accurate but it is a good looking mask if you wanted the mask shown in the H4 poster. I hope someone is able to answer my earlier question if it is a photo of the original mask they just slapped on than I would totally be wrong and it would be Halloween 1 accurate in a sense.

I’ve seen a theory that makes sense to me.

It’s my understanding that the mask on the H4 poster IS the Hero mask used in H1 and H2. Not only that, I think it’s an old photo from H2 that H4 used.

The theory is that DIck Warlock is wearing the mask. If you increase the exposure and brightness you can see someone’s eyes.

The reason the mask looks different than what we see in H2 is because the back slit is not secured shut like we see in the film. I think Dick was kind of particular about having the mask secured shut because he thought the slit being open and exposing his hair looked silly.

The irony of how badass the H4 Poster looks, and how silly floodwater coveralls and a collar standing comically at full attention looks is not lost on many of us.

If the slit being open looked stupid from the back (which it does) close it up for the shots from behind, leave it open for the rest of the film. Just my opinion.

There are many threads on this topic.

It is warlock during H2 at some point and then tweaked by an artist. The novel cover version is the actual pic from what I understand!

Dick Warlock put the Velcro on the hero mask, because he hated the neck flaring out, I had that question asked to him by Nick Mulpagano years ago.
