Hi everyone!
I’m looking for the best DVD version of the original Halloween, I only got a basic swedish DVD from “Atlantic Film” and since it’s one of my favorite movies of all time I just want a better one, but I don’t know which one. Which one has the best Video and Sound quality? Unfortunately (The movie looks awesome on Blu-Ray in my opinion) I can’t buy the Blu-Ray version because I don’t have a Blu-Ray player…yet! If someone here knows anything about which one is the best…Please tell me!
No, the 25th Anniversary is the sharpest in picture quality (on DVD). What some fans get upset about is the color timing: Dean Cundey was not consulted for the ‘Divimax’ mastering on the 25th edition and the green tones are very green, and there is less of a blue tint to the film. For me this isn’t an issue, as the film is much sharper in image quality than the Cundey-approved version (which is now the standard Anchor Bay ‘Halloween’ DVD).
As I understand it, the Blu-Ray release is a composite of the 25th edition and the Cundey version. Can anyone confirm?
Personally, I believe the 'Extended ’ cut of ‘Halloween’ is NOT ‘Halloween’ (as originally intended). Carpenter shot that extra material to pad out the running time for TV, and it shows (as he admits on the ‘A Cut Above’ documentary on the 25th edition, he ‘whored out’ by doing it). It adds nothing to the film, and, to my mind, is clunky.
On DVD, I’d buy the Anchor Bay 25th Anniversary edition and the regular (2007) Anchor Bay edition. That way you get the sharper 25th anniversary edition, and the Cundey-approved earlier release. But the way to go is Blu-Ray, or so I hear.
Definitely get the extended edition. I think the added footage makes it an even BETTER movie.
If you hav a blu ray player, get the blu ray version. Its incredible. In the scene where laurie sees michael outside of the school, you can actually see the facial features in the mask.
