Great news!!! The number one question is about getting it properly preserved/ so it lasts. Restoring is tricky as it often alters what the work was. But the right person could both restore and preserve the mask.
I don’t want to give anything away, the interview will be up relatively soon. Really wanting to send two or three more good questions and then I’ll get to work putting it all together.
As far as the mask being repainted, I’m not sure on that one. I think it is possible it was just cleaned, similar to the way some masks that are yellowed are cleaned. In the end that is nothing more than a guess of course. I’ve known Dick personally for a few years now however and I can say with confidence he wouldn’t say it wasn’t repainted and KNOW that it indeed was. Could it have at some point been out of his possession? Not that I know of but again that is only an opinion.
TheGhostlyShape - The video you are talking about was from 1998. Other than the neck departing from the mask, it really didn’t deteriorate that much more over the next five years. I posted one rare still from the video a few years back, I’ll repost it with the interview for the purpose of showing the mask’s neck was already rotting in 1998. When Mark bought it (2003) five years had passed and it had separated from the mask at this point.
Speaking of deteriorating, it’s REALLY odd how fast a mask can go downhill, seemingly all at once. Below is a great example. I’ve owned a few Don Post “The Masks” for years. I recently was getting some of my things out of storage areas to put into the main areas of my display rooms. When I was getting these out I ran into “The Masks”. Unlike my higher end stuff I never really took care of these masks (outside of a very nice 85 I have, it’s mint). Ironically I kept them in a popcorn tin, only to find out later Dick kept the hero in the same sort of tin.
Just three years ago I had them out to simply see how they were doing. Only a SLIGHT amount of hardness had started in certain areas. Keep in mind when I got them out I did NOT wear them, expose them to anything, nothing at all! I simply just put them back in the tins the same way they had been for years. THIS is what they look like now:

Does mark own the h1 coveralls, or the h2 coveralls? Thanks for the info
H2. Mark got the hero, scalpel and Elrod knife along with the coveralls and boots from Dick in 2003.
Hair color as suggested, and what type of hair the mask really has.
Please ask him what the Tag inside the coveralls say? Make, size, color.
Thorough post, thank you! That’s a shame about that mask
. That’s insane how quickly it deteriorated and how you kept it in a Tin like warlock. I made this picture comparing the mask in 82 and 98. Notice how the paint on the mask is even, no weathering (with the exception of the lips, but it has mostly been covered up). The wiping off the yellowing makes sense, but it also doesn’t since it wasn’t just yellowing- the masks paint was off down to the latex, which is what I find so weird. Maybe Dick doesn’t remember it? I’m not sure. I don’t think Dick is a liar by any means, but I just can’t shake feeling that the mask had some sort of repainting done.

Also I don’t know if you got it, but I sent you another PM.

Such monumental news! Thank you Benny!
Looking forward to this!!!
This is big news. There have been some great questions already suggested.
Thanks much guys, quite a bit of work goes into things like this and the annual countdown. Working fifty hours per week average makes it tough to do sometimes, seeing the excitement of my collecting brothers (and a few sisters too!) means a great deal.
you just made my day!
i’d like to know if Mark can tell what type of hair is on the mask ![]()
thanks so much- youre the best!

That’s great news!!!
The mask was certainly repainted, whether Warlock was aware of it or not.
Tom Spina Designs services has proven invaluable with the restoration of the Halloween 5 hero mask for Don Shanks, and I’m glad to see his name mentioned several times in this post. Hoping the current owner would consider this an option.
Wow! Really looking forward to this ![]()
Amazing news !!!
So cool to hear this!!
Very excited to see all this soon !
Thank you
Alright, I took most of the questions (along with a couple more of my own) and sent them on to Mark. Once he gets time to reply to them and I can compile all the info from my initial questions, his replies, these new questions and the replies, I’ll put this all together and post. I’ll do my best to have it up as soon as possible. I’d guess the earliest would be Sunday but most likely a week or so. This will be an exclusive for the members of this site as Derek and we mods way of saying that we appreciate you all! It’s also a good way to bring some new excitement (hopefully) to what should be a GREAT time! We could very possibly have the best sequel coming since Halloween II in less than a year now. Halloween 2018 has the potential of being the best this board has seen YET. MUCH to look forward to, great time for remembering what we are all here for…FUN! Mark should certainly be thanked as well for taking his personal time to do this for the community.
Good job and thanks for doing this
Oh wow man this is awesome.
this is great news!!
