As I was looking thru Ebay I came across blank that looks like a DP 99. The title is, Michael Myers Captain Kirk Halloween Mask. Item description states, Cast from the Original 1975 Kirk Foam Master, this mask blank is as close to the original as they come! This is a production copy with a medium thickness. Size 24.5" at temples.
Looking at the blank it has really good details and looks to me like a DP99. Anyone got the scoop on this and if its legit?
Do you have a link to the auction? My guess is that it’s a recast of a recast of a recast of a 99 Shat that has little detail and will fit way to big. There’s a couple of people out there selling these right now.
YES i own the blank your talking about, its AMAZING. absolutely amazing. the thickness is out of this world, the details… oh the details are down to every single mark. its scaled perfectly. i don’t know who made it tho, but its the best blank ever. i had the shat blank, some dp 99 kirks blank, a 98 blank, and a 75k blank, and this just destroys them. it fit me perfectly and i have a somewhat tiny head. get it dude.

I thought it was well known that those blanks weren’t from any kind of 75 kirk master. Or am I mistaking these blanks with something else?
These blanks come from that small foam-filled production cast Kirk blank that surfaced some time ago now. I have a blank in hand and I can tell you, they’re nothing amazing. The mask they came from (see below) was a blank production made Kirk, which already lacked detail a mint Kirk would have. It was also foam-filled and therefore, distorted. With the recast and enlargement that took place to make these blanks, even more detail was lost and distorted more so. I would say they have about the same amount of detail a 75k has, but not as nicely shaped.
I believe this same foam-filled Kirk blank was also the one used to make the DPS '98 proto, as they share all the same unique markings. But whoever enlarged it did a better job, as the shape is much nicer than these blanks being offered.

I have one of those. The detail on it is fantastic, closer to the HMK and its’ offshoot masks than most other masks (with only a few in that general ballpark), but it lost its’ shape in the enlarging process (it’s 24.5") as the entire mask was enlarged to that size and not just the back of the head and neck liek on the new large Creeps and Psychos. I’ve recommended that they do another silicon cast and do 23", 23.5", and 24" masters, they’d make a lot more money, but they haven’t done it. It’s a mask with a lot of potential, it can easily be a nice H2 off the bat. Currently I’m using the Shatner lifemask and some other techniques to re-shape the mask. I’ll have the results by Thursday and hopefully post a pic (the eyecuts are messed up right now, but I’ll repair them soon enough).

That’s the one I was referring to. It’s a recast of the mask I posted above.
Here’s a better comparison to show the distortion from the enlargement. As you can see, the original Kirk blank has a really nice shape to it, but it’s lost in the recast.
